I first watched Red Dwarf when it was on Netflix years and years ago. Probably 15 years ago or more. At the time I think I hooked up my Wii U to an old CRT I dusted off from the garage just to watch movies. I was kinda depressed at the time but watching Red Dwarf kinda got me into British comedies. I just had never heard of it before and was shocked that basically no one I knew had ever heard about it. This was years and years before Britbox was a thing. I had watched Hitchhikers Guide and classic Dr. Who and this felt like it combined the best parts from both into something new. It's not Star Trek. It's not Star Wars. It's not Dr. Who. It's not Hitchhikers Guide. It's Red Dwarf.*Intro theme intensifies*
>>220334512I remember watching it on TV as a kid in the 90's although I didn't really 'get' all of the humor, it was just a zaney space show that was funny and enjoyable.
>>220334512First time for me was on DVD in the very early 2000s, my uncle had the first 3 series and I was absolutely enthralled by it. The DVDs were also kinda rare and expensive so I only ever got to watch it at his house.

Shame the broadcaster shitcanned the series entirely because they don't want to make scripted shows any more.
>>220334550Same. PBS had some bangers back in the day. Red Dwarf, Mr Bean, Robot Wars UK, Are You Being Served?, Keeping Up Appearances

>>220335472The problem with Kochanski was she replaced Rimmer, not that she was that bad in herself
>Rob Grant finally returns to writing RD>fucking diesAnyway, the new book is listed on Amazon now, if people didn't catch it.
>>220336984Kind of throws off the whole theme of the series, which is a bunch of desperate lonely men and their non-human companions, travelling around in deep space.Kochanski being there introduces an aspect of hope for Lister, which is less funny.I will agree 7 and 8 are maybe over hated though. It was fun to see them toy around with longer arcs, and tweaking the status quo.
>>220334512It used to play on PBS when it was relatively new
>>220334728This was the line that made my mom say I wasn't allowed to watch anymore, lol
>>220337003>This would be formally announced as a novel on 19 February 2026, to be published in July 2026.[11] Grant died suddenly less than a week later on 25 February 2026, at the age of 70. His death was announced the following day.Damn
