Where the fuck is the Ted Turner thread holy shit is this /tv/ or what
>>
These zoom zooms have zero respect for great men like Ted.
>>
>>220350126
what did he do that would be on topic?
>>
>>220350161
Were you dropped as a child? Repeatedly and on purpose?
>>
>>220350161
You're kidding right? What has Ted Turner done for TV and movies?
>>
>>220350126
F
>>
I thought he died years ago
>>
>>220350161
>Ted Turner bought large libraries of old Hollywood movies, preserved them, and broadcast them constantly on cable television so new generations could see them. He later helped create Turner Classic Movies (TCM), which became dedicated to showing classic films.
>>
>>220350200
>>220350236
i agree he was important, just /tv/ ususally isnt about the business side. he wasnt known for his creative involvement.
>>
>>220350222
Checked, I didn't even know he was sick.
>>
>>220350161
>TCM
>CNN
>Captain Planet
>TNT
>responsible for Star Trek reruns in the 70s
>kept movies and television made before 1986 in circulation

>In 2002, Turner accused Israel of terror: "The Palestinians are fighting with human suicide bombers, that's all they have. The Israelis ... they've got one of the most powerful military machines in the world. The Palestinians have nothing. So who are the terrorists? I would make a case that both sides are involved in terrorism."

>>
>>220350126
there was a big thread yesterday but mods (uninformed, smelly) did not bother to sticky.
>>
>>220350329
>isnt about the business side
(ENTER MOVIE HERE) IS BOMBING AT THE BOX OFFICE LOL KEK is a weekly thread here.
>>
>>220350236
I'm old enough to remember how Ted Turner bought up MGM and then forced colorization of all those cool old black and white movies. For a while the only way you could watch them was in color which always looked like shit. It was basically the 80's equivalent to AI upscaling. When people complained, he said "I can do what I want with the movies, they're my films!"
The dude was a total cunt, but fortunately he backpedaled on it and Turner Classic Movies became a thing where all the movies were shown in their original black and white.
>>
>>220350587
He's absolved of the colorization sin for making something as incredible as TCM.
>>
>>220350587
>this guy almost did a thing that I didn't like in retrospect (you weren't old enough to have a formed opinion when it was going down) so man he's a TOTAL FUCKING CUNT!
>>
>>220350126
chuds are seething at him despite Ted being a massive chud himself. the mind virus is very real
>>
>>220350126
There have been dozens of hoax threads about him dying for weeks now. The jannies probably just assumed that this time it was fake again, too.
>>
>>220350721
It's pure cultism at this point. Actual beliefs are for trannies. You must obey the red algorithm or be excommunicated.

>>
>>220350587
there was pressure in the 80s for all tv programming to be in color.
>>
>>220350329
He had cameos in Gettysburg and Gods and Generals
>>
>>220350662
He didn't "almost" do it. He did it and it was absolutely garbage. Yes, that did make him a huge cunt.
>>220350835
There wasn't. The public backlash against it was overwhelming yet he basically said "I can do what I want, they're my movies."
>>
>>220350126
I swear he died like 20 years ago, wtf do you mean he just passed away
>>
>>220351297
>"I can do what I want, they're my movies."
Where is the lie?
>>
>colorization of old movies
Does this destroy the original copy of the movie where it can never be watched in b&w again?
>>
>>220351347
I called him a cunt not a liar. He definitely was a cunt.
>>
>>220351362
When you refuse to release it in black and white, yes, which is what he was doing.
>>
CAPTAINNNNN PLLLLAAAAANNNNET

it is kind of funny seeing how mindless chuds actually are

He's angry because he never got to strangle one with his bare hands before dying.
>>
>>220350126
Has that ungrateful prostitute Jane Fonda already commented on his death?
>>
>>220350161
invented modern news television
>>
>>220351530
yes and she made it about herself
>>
>>220351476
stop samefagging and go back
>>
>>220350236
TCM is cool for discovering old movies but not cool for adding hosts that inject woke talking points.
>>
Interestingly, he was a slight neoconfederate and his networks had movies about stuff like the Hunley submarine and, of course, he made the epic Gods and Generals and took a loss on the passion project while incurring the wrath of SJWs like the SPLC: https://www.splcenter.org/resources/reports/neo-confederates-attempt-whitewash-southern-history/

>>
>>220352683

One of my biggest inspirations in the sense that this man was the embodiment of just doing whatever the fuck you loved and, through sheer will, being able to take that to the absolute extremes of success even while being perceived as a batshit manic by every other successful person around you. Rabble rouser from the deep south with romantic reverence for its heritage who also became an advocate for international cooperation and the freedom of information along with God knows how many other ventures under his belt that he took on just because he felt like it. RIP to the man.

I'm shocked neither this nor the last thread was pinned but >>220350158 probably has a point in that a lot of younger people probably just don't care/know about him, especially since he kind of dropped from the public face after the AOL-Time Warner disaster in the early 2000s so there's not a lot of cultural overlap left to be had there. But still one of the best representations of the American spirit and the man that shaped media culture for probably the next century to come.

he basically saved bison by keeping enough alive for them to have genetic diversity rather than the china panda tactic of privately hoarding a handful and not allowing them to breed so you can license them to zoos

>Ted Turner has been invested in protecting the American bison since he was a young boy, reading about the species, once roaming North America by the millions, being reduced to less than 1,000 animals.
>Today, Ted owns the world’s largest bison herd, numbering approximately 45,000 head and comprising a broad diversity of the extant bison genetics in North America, safeguarding the species’ survival.

I can eat bison because of ted turner

Literally created the concept of a national cable television channel. Before him there was only OTA networks and regional cable channels.
>>
>>220352714
It's hilarious to think a totally dead, obsolete proprietary online format like AOL once had to clout to buy an actual media empire and await the day when present tech lowlifes from the Ellison family using computer money to get Paramount (and ironically CNN Turner remnant) to Altman et al. are just as obsolete and forgotten.
>>
>>220352763
It will happen to them one day too
>>
>>220352738
Don't forget he also had to actively fight for it as the primary networks also targeted him in a national court case when TBS went national to outright restrict non-big three networks from being able to use satellite technology to broadcast themselves without incurring major feesand anti-syndication rules that would've drowned 99% of the independent networks to come, which he managed to crush in court. He's literally to thank for the existence of everything that isn't (or wasn't) a product of NBC/CBS/ABC.
>>
>>220352714
bless this man for having provided me the entertainment hours of dub cee dubya
>>
>>220352821
Right. Without him there's no MTV, HBO, Comedy Central, Cartoon Network...
>>
>>220350126
Thanks for the zog propaganda Ted. Rest in piss.
>>
>>220352450
Holy shit that's cool. I never knew about The Hunley
>>
