King Jerrod gives Kitana a medallion, that will allow her to communicate with Raiden. Then king dies from the hands of Shao Kahn at the last Edenian Mortal Kombat.
Raiden brings Johnny Cage, but Cage bails, until it's time to fight Kitana. Kitana wins, but spares him.
Quan Chi brings Kano back and then Kano gives him the medallion of Shinnok he stole in the first movie. Quan Chi also brought Kung Lao, who teleports too Raiden's temple and injures him with his hat. Then Quan Chi and Shang Tsung steal his lifeforce to power the medallion and make Shao Kahn immortal.
There are three fights - Shao Kahn vs Cole Young, Jade vs Jax, Kung Lao vs Lu Kang.
Jade spares Jade, Lu Kang kills revived Kung Lao. Shao Kahn is now immortal, he kills Cole, smashes his head with the hammer and then drops his body into acid.
Now, the only way to defeat Shao Kahn is to destroy the amulet.
Earth warriors need to sneak into the palace, but the only way is through Tarkatan tunnels, so they go to Baraka, who doesn't want to help them, until Cage provokes him. Johnny wins and Baraka declares him a new Tarkatan's village idol.
Kitana is chained at the city's center for helping Earth warriors. Jax, Cage, Sonya and Lu Kang sneak into the palace with Baraka's help. Shao Kahn detects them and starts the fight with Lu Kang, who can't injure Shao Kahn. They almost steal the amulet, but then Noob Saibot shows up and steals it to the Netherrealm. Shao Kahn kills Jax.
After the fight Kano betrays Shao Kahn and offers his help to Johnny Cage to steal the amulet (for a price). Raiden uses his remaining life force to teleport Kano and Cage to the Netherrealm to find Scorpion and fight Noob Saibot.

Together they fight him, break the amulet with Jade's help, while Lu Kang and Sonya fight Shao Kahn. Before they break the amulet, though, Shao Kahn kills Lu Kang and defeats Sonya, who liberates Kitana from chains. Kitana declares she's an Earth warrior now and fights Shao Kahn. Amulet is broken, Raiden gets his powers back, Kitana kills Shao Kahn and becomes a new queen.
Sequel bait is them going to save everyone who died in the first two movies.

Overall, it's an okay movie, 6/10, a lot of cringy scenes, bad fights and quips (feels like a Marvel movie now), but the fights and scenes that are good are definitely kino, Kung Lao vs Lu Kang was definitely the top for me. Karl Urban is really fucking bad as Johnny Cage. I'm kinda bummed they killed Cole Young, because what was the fucking point in introducing him as a main character in the first one.
But I guess they decided to copy Mortal Kombat Annihilation.
Still better than the first movie, Kano is still certified KINO character. Noob Saibot is just a lot of blobs, feels like they could have made him better.
Feels like a Marvel version of Mortal Kombat, but I did enjoy it still.

It's hilarious how almost unceremonious they are with the Cole in this movie. It feels like Mortal Kombat Annihilation scene, where they kill Johnny Cage. At least here he kills Shao Kahn - if he wasn't immortal, Cole would have won here, but the whole malicious intent behind his death is almost felt through the screen. It's THE ONLY time Shao Kahn actually smashes someone with the hammer, Jerrod and Jax deaths are almost noble - he stabs them with the hammer. Here? He just destroys his head completely AND then drops his body into acid.
To add insult to injury, when Kano and Johnny find Scorpion, they don't even talk how Shao Kahn killed his only descendant, they only tell him about Bi-Han and immediately Scorpion goes into battle mode.
I guess they really wanted to dispose of their mistake in the first movie with Cole, huh.

I definitely like Karl Urban in almost all of his roles, but here he was completely miscast. It also felt like he was doing his stunts himself, but he was too old, so it felt like all the fights and scenes with him were intentionally slowed down. Also, considering his character in Mortal Kombat 1, he didn't have anything interesting going with him in the movie. Yeah, there is two scenes with Tarkatans, but that's all.
So, in the end, he's slow, old, not cool or interesting, he doesn't have anything to work with. Also, Karl looked really fucking weird in this movie, felt like his face was disfigured with plastic surgery or something.

I really thought they were going with MK1 route with him, but here he's just a washed up side character who learns the importance of sacrifice, he has an introduction scene, where audience is recapped about the events of the first movie, but Kitana is the proper main character - even though she isn't doing much in the movie, except teleporting between realms and leaking info to Raiden's crew.
But she is the only one who has real, emotional stake in defeating Shao Kahn, because the intro of the movie is her watching Shao Kahn killing her father, so, in the end it looks like she was always meant to be the main character, but just does jack most of the film, except the ending.
Lu Kang is definitely not the main character too, yes, all his scenes are good and interesting to watch (compared to everyone else), but the story just doesn't care about him as much as it cares about Kitana's struggle of being the daughter of the big bad.
I remember someone saying that creators went Avengers: Infinity War rout and I definitely see it here, because it literally just is Thanos and Gamorra arc, but only if it was actually Gamorra killing Thanos in the end. Almost all the story beats and dialogue are the same, Shao Kahn doesn't even want to kill her and states it several times that he will forgive her.

Johnny and Kano are helping Scorpion defeat Noob Saibot in the Netherrealm, but Johnny doesn't do much there, except giving Noob a final kick to break the amulet.
