The outrage over trap in a new Odyssey movie is especially funny because chuds genuinely think James Horner-style orchestral scoring is somehow “authentic” to Bronze Age Greece. It will come as a profound shock to chuds to learn that the ancient Greeks used none of the instruments James Horner does.

In fact, trap is much closer to actual Homeric performance culture than James Horner-style music. Homeric epic was oral, rhythmic, repetitive, boastful, improvisatory, and performed competitively for live audiences. It was designed to hit hard in the moment: formulaic phrases, recurring epithets, aggressive flexing, taunting enemies, celebrating violence, wealth, lineage, revenge, and divine favor. That is structurally and socially much closer to rap and trap than to the swelling emotional scores of orchestral film scores. Chuds cannot even conceive of the fact that the use of orchestral music in films is a modern convention rather than orchestral music literally playing during the Trojan War. Meanwhile, trap actually preserves several features that would make immediate sense in an oral heroic culture

they didn't speak in ebonics tho, and the rhythm used probably sounded more like old dramatic theater plays than gangsta LARP

You stole this post from Reddit or Tumblr, but hell, you're actually right.
So why wouldn't Nolan with his infinite budget, adapt that style?

False equivalence

The score is background stuff that doesn't pertain to the actual story itself.
