Why doesn't the crysknife have the same cultural relevance as the lightsaber?
>>

>>
>>220365486
Why doesn't the monomolecular blade from No Escape have the same cultural relevance as the lightsaber?

They're both swords from sci-fi movies, after all.
>>
>>220365486
The lightsaber glows and comes in multiple colours. It extends out like a switchblade. It burns or melts through almost anything. Characters can deflect enemy shots with it. Most importantly though, it comes with some of the best sound effects put to film.

The crysknife is cool. But it quite simply can’t compete with those traits.
>>
>>220365486
It's supposed to be made out of crystal, not metal.

Because everybody always makes it look retarded whenever it's adapted to the screen. It's supposed to be a faintly glowing crystal that refracts light.

>>
Because one comes in multiple colors and makes a cool woomph sound when you swing it and a cool kssshhhh sound when you clash it with another one and cuts through anything and the other is just a knife with some engravings
>>
>>220365486

Because Dune doesn´t have the cultural relevance the OT achieved. And it never will because it lacks a strong cinematographic identity. Even Avatar has more iconic value than Dunc and that one is not all that culturally relevant either.

I think you guys are missing the point. While you’re correct that the Great Houses would absolutely nuke a house out of existence for the aforementioned war crime, shields and lasguns are extremely common, and not everyone in existence is a member of the Landsraad. It would have been fantastically easy for the Fremen to blow up Arakeen, and they could just shrug it off as being the actions of a lone nut. The same is true of every disgruntled peon everywhere.

That's a shashka and its used from horseback to strike soft targets. You don't get into a sword duel with it so there's no need for a bulky hand guard. And the handle still keeps the hand captive, whereas the shitty dunc sword has a smooth transition from handle to blade. The only real comparison to it is the Seax, a much shorter weapon that doubled as a utility knife and low tier combat weapon.

Knife fag here. They messed up the design.

You can see on my pic how a tacticool/sci-fi version of this short sword/knife will look like. They really messed up the bladed weapons in DUNK, you can tell no one in the team is a knife or a sword person.

What I would choose for each different fraction.

Fremen - variants of the ones on my pic.

Atreides swords looked like some sort of tactical machete that kind of sux. Their planet looked like Scotland. Give them dirks. More plain ones for the grunts more ornamented ones for the officers and main characters. It will also explain how Paul managed to fight well with unfamiliar blade - after all what his trained on and what the fremen use will have similar handling.

Harkonnen had industrial design planet - give them german messers, they look kind of brutish like their house main characteristic. The elfish recurve blades Feyd used made no sense given the other aesthetics. Good news for messsers is they come in all shape and sizes, they are also good for dual wield if you wish to have the arena scene. There at least 5 different types of this kind of short sword. Their grunts had longer swords - again good news, messers come in kriegsmesser variant that is longer and will also fit the theme.

For the emperor blade I would use some distinctive shape that is more aesthetics than functionality so it will be hard for Feyd to use - some very ornamented cinquedea will be the best.

The sardaukar are the hardest - the sword has to be:
1. easy to mass produce, but not simple as machete.
2. have many ways to handle so they have to be able to be used one handed and two handed
3. have defense capability so some hand protection.
I would probably go with some kind of bastard sword with S shaped (symbol for sardaukar) complex cross guard with two rings on the sides (bc they train to fight in team of 3).

Real answer? It's a fucking knife. The lightsaber is clearly a toy, anyone can buy/make one and walk around without a problem. Nerf made some foam swords in the past (picrel) but parents usually don't buy this shit for their kids. I guess that since healthcare is so expensive in the US maybe it's better to avoid such risks.

This is not a kitchen knife the steel part next to your hand is not sharpened or even thinned. The steel stock is at lest 4mm thick you can't cut your hand. You also can't slip unless your hands look like the basedboy on the pic.
>>220384313
Fremen kill by ambush, they don't duel, unless they fight each other and this is rare, a guard will just snag on things. Look up wakizashi - has guard, tanto - does not have guard. Messer - has guard, Bauernwehr - has no cross guard (but keeps the nail).
>>220384383
Most good knifes you can get right now are 1000+ years old design. Only the bowie is newish and it is still 300+ years old. This is one of the things you can't refine further. Every time someone try to reinvent the knife you get some brainfart like Tom Brown's tracker knife. They could have gotten proven designs and made them look slightly more modern, instead we got temu style machetes with no distal taper, and oversized butter knife. The only good bladed weapon was the emperor dagger that was some kind of dirk/gladius hybrid but they messed it up somehow by giving it perfectly round handle like a screwdriver that will make blade aliment a bitch.

The most sold replica swords are the witcher swords, Anduril from LoTR and the swords from GoT. Only Anduril has some kind of meaning central to the plot and backstory. The swords from got aside for the superior and mystical properties of the steel have no real backstory. Longclaw is probably the most sold one and I can't tell some interesting thing about it aside from said special steel that make is rare and give is herloom status. Being visually distinctive but no completely retarded makes a sword popular (the guard of the witcher sword, the pommels of Anduril and longclaw) One piece life action have unique swords but zorro swords will sell the most and they are just regular slightly longer the normal katana with distinct but not very unique tsubas.
