Probably one of the guest eps. Dan Castellaneta at the zoo, Bruce Willis talking to himself in the mirror. I seem to recall a Thanksgiving one that was good too. If you don’t get rustled by drag acts the one where Chandler sees his Dad on stage dressed as a woman is pretty funny.

>>
>>220368741

I thought Jerrys Favorite show was the Abbot and Costello TV series from the 1950s. It has some similarities to sienfelds own show. Each episode starts with them joking with the audience in front of a curtain. The characters live in an apartment in LA and they mostly just hang around, they are always looking for work and they interact with strange characters who live nearby like Joe Bachagolupe an italian stereotype character.
>>
>>220368741
Friends has universal themes but Seinfeld is only funny to neurotic Jews and New Yorkers. People think the characters are exaggerated but that's how Jews really act. Most George plots are just things that happened to Larry David.
>>
>>220369455
It was Ursula in that video.
>>
>>220368741
He calls jewa ugly, haha.
>>
>>220369128
which is why it isn't as entertaining. watching good looking people do good looking people things like gossip and engage in shallow drama is the essence of femtainment. True comedy is only achieved when someone is humiliated, and nobody is more willing to publicly humiliate themselves than Jews.
>>
>>220369211
Schwimmer is 13 years younger and three inches taller so I would wager him.

>>
>>220369402
Couple of really embarrassing bits like the Reservoir Dogs bit but some really good stuff in there and they were quite creative with how it was structured. Wasn’t the same when Jeff left though
>>
>>220370143
It couldn’t have been Ross. Ross is the largest friend, and as such couldn’t sleep on a couch. He would need a super king size bed. Also, the anon you replied to referenced a dinner. Ross’s appetite couldn’t be satisfied by one human sized dinner. He would have eaten that poster, the poster’s wife and any pets they had as well.

The dinner element also probably eliminates Joey. We don’t know the heat the dinner was served at. If it was more than lukewarm to the touch, warm enough to qualify as a hot dinner, it definitely wasn’t Joey. He doesn’t have many of those, it would simply have made the news if he was able to indulge in one.

By process of elimination, it was most likely Chandler. He could fit on a couch, has eaten many hot dinners, and his usage of recreational drugs would explain a marital dispute.

he is 100% right. friends has the same basic premise, locations and even plotlines as seinfeld and it was pitched to the same network like 6 months after seinfeld became a big hit. i don't know if the creators wanted to rip off seinfeld or if the network made them change it to resemble seinfeld more but yes it was basically "seinfeld but more normie/woman friendly." at the very least friends would never have been picked up by the network if seinfeld wasn't already there and doing numbers.
>>
>>220376187
Would be a better episode if you completely removed the terrible Phoebe B-plot. Actually Friends would be a better show in general if you just removed Phoebe.
>>
>>220375864
No, Sunny might have taken some inspiration from Seinfeld's "show about nothing" kind of premise, but it's not "the child of Seinfeld." But again, that has nothing to do with Jerry Seinfeld himself, who as I said is the least interesting character in his own show, whereas every character in Sunny is more interesting, most people consider Dee to be the worst character and she's already almost at Kramer levels of entertaining. The fact that Sunny also now has more seasons just shows that they could take the Seinfeld concept and do it better. Stretch it further.
I'll say it again Jerry Seinfeld's entire career is just coasting off the momentum of more talented and entertaining people around him. You know what the last biggest thing Jerry actually produced was? The Bee Movie, almost 20 years ago that's only legacy is memes spawned from how utterly terrible the film is.
>>

>Imagine Seinfeld but

>>220376151
sunny, arrested development, the office etc, obviously curb. all the savvy comedy shows in the 00s and beyond were influenced by seinfeld both in the sense of the humor being derived from neurotics being shitty to people and in imitating the seinfeld episode structure of multiple unrelated plotlines that collide in the end. friends might be more normie-friendly but all the comedy writers wanted to imitate seinfeld.

live studio audience allows for comedy to be natural and actually funny. canned laughter is a different matter.

Correct. Seinfeld fucking MOGS Friends. Friends was the most safe, boring, inoffensive and bland normie-tier garbage I ever had the displeasure of momentarily watching. Even Joey from Friends is just Kramer Lite. Seinfeld versus Friends is jew versus jew, but at least Seinfeld is actually entertaining. Unlike Friends.
>>
During the 70s and 80s, cities were portrayed, for good reason, as dangerous shitholes. Sitcoms were mostly set in the suburbs. In the mid 70s, there was a brief flirtation with urban shows after the "rural purge" but that didn't last long. The public simply wasn't interested in city life.
The main thing 'Seinfeld' can be credited with is making city life look middle class and normie again. Shows that followed, like 'Friends', continued this trend but the path was blazed by Jerry and his crew.

Eh, there were a bunch of sitcoms set in cities, they just didn't portray the city much as anything other than a backdrop for the show (from memory, I haven't watched shows from the 70s since my granpa died). The city=crime trope is based in historical reality (in American major cities at least) and was a very real trend in movies depicting places like NY, Detroit etc but plenty of shows and movies still set their stuff in cities, they'd just ignore those themes instead of showing gritty urban areas and denizens.
t. 15 years of growing up with my granpa who would refuse to watch anything released after I was born

The formula is different. Seinfeld is more episodic and has more situational humor whereas FRIENDS is more character and story driven. You don’t have an equivalent to the Ross and Rachel relationship in Seinfeld, but you don’t need a Ross and Rachel in Seinfeld because the focus is more on exploring the absurdities of the modern world.

Did violent crime happen in the New York of 'Friends'? The only violent crime I can think of was Phoebe mugging Ross and even that was just them recollecting what happened decades earlier. 'Seinfeld' had The Lopper and many other threats of violence, though usually much less serious than having your head Highlandered. While generally not violent, beyond some pushing, the main characters often committed minor criminal offenses. Ross having an illegal monkey seems to be as edgy as 'Friends' ever got.
