>Wahhhh, I'm bored in a luxury hotel despite my affluent life
What cry babies

Movies being released about rich people who are miserable with their own wealth are like the opposite of a recession indicator. You won't see movies like that released today.
>>
>>220370875

I find they don't show the inner world of such affluent people like actors. No looking into their personal world of their true self being destroyed by having to fake being a different person. No secret order lodges. No casting couches. No constant paps harassment. No mansion humiliation illuminati parties.

It was lacking the real meat.

While he was having some fish out of water moments, in general he seemed to be unhappy about his life back at home, not about it in Japan.
>>
>>220370875
sure, but it's a real thing. Just being rich is not a guarantee of happiness. I know people who are trust fund babies that never have to work in their life yet are depressed.
>>
>>220370875
Nice movie. Scarjo is powerful levels of cute.
>Pink see through
Cute.
>>
>>220372640
>fish out of water moments

in a normal movie you could call them that…

this film was more like OOOOHHHH ME JAPANESEY MAN OHHH WOULD YOU LIKE SPICY SUPER EGG ROLL OHHHHHJJJJ and then murray would give scarlett a look.

same thing with the japanese director giving physical directions.

>The Power and the Glory (1933)
>After the funeral service for Tom Garner (Spencer Tracy), a powerful and much-hated railroad tycoon who committed suicide, his best friend Henry recalls Garner's life, his family problems, and his rise from track walker to president of the railroad.

To be fair, being stuck in a hotel even a luxury hotel, can drive you insane.

Got stuck at a luxury hotel for work during a big blizzard, where the conference I was supposed to attend got cancelled and planes were grounded and my boss basically told me to stay put because it was below zero outside and was willing to eat the cost of the hotel room and room service bill for a week because shit was THAT fucking bad blizzard-wise.

The was nothing on TV worth watching, this was before streaming was a thing, and the whole hotel was full of pissed off workers forced to come into work or else be fired. And the guests that were still there kept to themselves and acted like I was s weirdo for trying to start a conversation with them.

By day three I was randomly wandering the halls at 3AM hoping to find SOMEONE to talk to that wasn't a hotel employee who wouldn't shut up about how the hotel was run by monsters who expected them to brave below zero weather and a defy a stay at home order because 75%of the staff were illegals

Because they don't receive love. Also they don't get to strive and succeed in their aspirations.

Alcohol exists.

Also you're probably an ugly autist who makes people uncomfortable.

Simplified, the movie is kind of like that, but it's just a very simple existential crisis, slice of life movie with a glimmer of hope finding a person you become infatuated with on a spiritual level. I liked it, it's in my top 10 movies of all time for me. It also captured the essence of Japan perfectly. Japan is a like a beautiful hell where you can't really plug into the culture, but you can appreciate it as an outsider.

As an excellent actor i never had a true self and don't understand what's meant by that, that's why i became a good actor. Aren't we all acting? Come on you're acting too.

Sofia Coppola movies are boring because they come from the perspective of a filmmaker who has lived her entire life in absurd luxury, wealth, and fame and is incurious about anything outside of thar frame of reference.

Striving is such a fucking meme. All the "reward" you get from climbing up in the rat race is more climbing. And then you feel your entire life is pointless, and it didn't help you find a special one. Meanwhile my parents married before they had a job. Ditto with my grandparents. They all had love and support before they had to strive. Thinking you have to strive first is peak slave mindset.

It's been so long since I've been in a hotel because air bnbs are always much cheaper. Hotel rooms are kino, I miss them.

ScarJo peaked in this movie.

>foid peaks in high school
Many such cases.
>>
Gen Z is so myopic and naval gazing that they can’t relate to a movie about alienation and relationship unhappiness because they think they had to have the disposable income to traipse around Japan like the characters literally do
>>
>>220371038
They literally released one last month starting Keanu Reeves. Rich asshole had a drug problem, "boohoo feel sorry for the character"
Bitch, please!
>>
This movie was based off Sofia coppola’s experiences experiences traveling with her father from place to place living in hotels as he directed films
>>
I imagine weebs would think they'd be in heaven, but take a foot outside their hotel and try to communicate with local Japs and they'd soon feel isolated and alone.

Bill Murray's best performance.

Can't speak from ScarJo's perspective, but if you ever get into Murray's position in life you know this movie absolutely nailed it.

>middle aged
>nagging wife
>going through the motions
>suddenly a woman is really into you and you're really into her
>it's literally feels like being struck by lightning
>shows you what you've been missing while on autopilot for 15 years
>you are now conscious again and enjoying life
>>
The happy ending here is a man in his mid-50s who now has to satisfy a chick in her 20s who's already bitching about life while being given a free ride. Just kill yourself at that point.
>>
It's not about being bored it's about being in a world you don't seem to fit in.
The culture shock is a metaphor for their perspective on their personal lives.
I hope this helps you write your 8th grade paper on the film.
>>
>>220383678
>you want to be with this new woman
>but you can't because imploding your life and family this late in the game is too much
>you say goodbye
>you will forever think about her every time your shrew wife nags you

>boss basically told me to stay put because it was below zero outside
Oh my god! BELOW ZERO!!! You are a fucking pussy

The Japs suffer from Paris syndrome, imagine western nerds thinking they'd fit in over there.

Bahaha it’s so weird to think that some things we experienced a while ago would largely on the surface be unthinkable for younger people.

Nowadays, Nippon land is a pretty cheap holiday destination
>>220383107
While it is amusing to berate weeds, it’s even more funny to think that the average western weeb would tower over the average jap. Fuck statistics those jap cunts were all tiny as fuck

>t. euro
>>
>>220384458
It's always been cheap. I went all over the world as a kid/teen. Zoomers grew up in a globohomo world with a decimated middle class. I'd feel bad for them if they weren't so insufferable.
>>
>>220373067
I'm not denying that that would probably get old by day three but this sounds like heaven to me. Just hang out in the bar, get blasted all day, make friends with the staff so they give you drugs (luxury hospitality establishment employees very often have drugs on hand), have your own seven day blizzard bender.
>>
>>220385495
If you don't have the bent for that kind of activity, you wouldn't make it. I was put up at a luxury resort for a week-long business trip conference. It was even made clear to me they didn't care if I attended or just fucked off and goofed around, and I had to checkout after day 3. I'm just not cut out for filling my days with bars & jacuzzis. Otoh, this was a family-oriented resort, so fat, white suburbanites and their screaming offspring didn't help my mood.
>>
>>220370875
I never understood the appeal of this movie.
>>
Bill Murray fucked her irl for sure

>I'm just not cut out for filling my days with bars & jacuzzis
yeah I wouldn't exactly struggle with that anon
>Otoh, this was a family-oriented resort, so fat, white suburbanites and their screaming offspring didn't help my mood.
this does change the equation somewhat though, if it's full of shithead fat people with fat kids I can't think of a worst place to be stuck. Were there no hot people to seduce or pay to fuck?
>>
>>220377609
no. it's best used in highballs and toki is better for that anyway
this is a Nikka website buddy

The biggest rug pull the elite has pulled on society is convincing everyone that life isn't a zero sum game when it absolutely is.
