VtMB the game is just a normal person's retelling of the setting and it works because it ignores its endless retarded soc-just elements that are INCESSANT in the core material. It does some politicking but it's mostly making fun of various factions, mostly Republican, but unlike the core material it doesn't whack you over the head with it and is able to poke fun at itself. It's basically a noir story with some vampire elements, which are mostly factional, like how anarchs clash with camarilla invading their turf. It has AMAZING aeshetics, especially facial animations which no amount of mocap can surpass since they have so much character. It also has abhorrent gameplay which prevents it from being an immersive sim, but enables it to keep focus on the story. Some of the stuff it's most lauded for, like playing as a skitzo, quickly wears off its welcome but is neat when you see it. Some stuff makes the game extremely boring, like playing as Nosferatu and not seeing anything of the hubs but going through uniform sewer network. The game is completely broken since you can go persuasion 7 with Ventrue which basically carries you through nearly every encounter and this is what you can do on character creation alone. The hubs and the characters are amazing and the least important thing in the game is all the vampire nonsense, which it takes only on surface levels and manages to work it into something interesting. If it were faithful to the setting first guy you meet would go on a gender diatribe and a 15-minute slog of a convo akin to Disco Elysium where you dread asking anyone anything because they'll shit out the dev's trauma onto you and they just. won't. stop. doing. that. shit. Here, first guy you meet is an enthusiastic ghoul retard and t he game clearly has no sympathy for his word salad. It's clean, it's sharp, it's well made (thanks to that german patcher guy). I repeat, you cannot honor the setting and make a game like this, you have to ignore it.
