I think Evil Dead 2 was the best in that regard, but nowadays it's just a (good) horror film remake series of somehow intelligent zombies fucking people over for reading a book accidently, but without the charmatic protagonist to deal with it.It's good still, but an obvious example of Hollywood yet again being too afraid to create a new IP and instead using a well known 80s creation that has a nostalgic flair to it. At least they are somehwat competent in this case, so I can't complain too much

It goes to shit the exact moment the mom gets corrupted in the elevator.It happens too early and doesn't feel earned. Her getting corrupted and going batshit should have been the last act/denouement.Also all that establishment inside the apartment unit is wasted since as soon as the deadite mom gets inside they leave it.Instead of spending so much time establishing their apartment interior, they should have established more of the building instead, letting us revisit it on their trip back down (which was cheap too iirc they use the elevator). They did this with the garage, but the setting still felt lacking somehow. Maybe they should have established more common areas kf the apartment. The fact no one else on the other floors notice anything wrong in the daytime too was also a copout.I understand all these things were because of low budget, so as a low budget movie it was sort of ok. But movies like REC do more with less and mog the absolute shit out of Evil Dead Rise.
