>>

I think the nature documentary stuff (which is good) overshadows his more important achievements as a producer for the BBC. Attenborough was the driving force behind Civillisation by Kenneth Clark, the greatest documentary EVER made, and it changed how television was made forever.

>>
>>220374897
The companion book is also very good
>>

I've never heard of this but I can't doubt your words, I'll go check it out

As Controller of BBC2 he commissioned:

Monty Python's Flying CircusCivilisation (presented by Kenneth Clark)The Old Grey Whistle Test, Match of the Day, The Money Programme, Pot Black (which introduced snooker to showcase colour TV) The World About Us (1969–1982)

Attenborough commissioned Jacob Bronowski's Ascent of Man, which, along was a big influence on Carl Sagan's Cosmos.

Basically, without Attenborough there would be no Cosmos.
>>
>>220374782
Did he get a letter from the King?
>>
>>220374897
Don't forget snooker, and tennis balls are yellow because of him.
>>
>>220374897
>There have been complaints in recent times that by focusing on a traditional choice of the great artists over the centuries – all men – Clark had neglected women,[15] and presented "a saga of noble names and sublime objects with little regard for the shaping forces of economics or practical politics".[16]
>>
>>220374832
haha
>>
I agree with Hans Zimmer, we need David for another 100 years.
>>
>>220374897
I saw this long ago, don't remember much. Looks like they go from the fall of Rome straight to the 12th century then forward. huh. No le Dark Ages.
>>
>>220375921
Ascent of Man was also incredible yes

>>220376107
It's the fall of Rome that he only spends 5 minutes on, and then most of the first episode deals with the dark ages. He focuses on the Vikings and the monks who copied manuscripts and created art like the Book of Kells, and then Charlemagne who was responsible for uniting Europe and preserving many books from antiquity by having people copy them

But then the second episode starts from the 12th century renaissance and that's where the series gets really good imo

He focuses more on what he thinks is important rather than spreading through time evenly. So there are like 4 episodes on the Italian renaissance and the Rome of the Popes, etc

He's important but also hysterical like a woman about certain subjects. Any early 20th century ecologist is more profound and far more important than him. However he no doubt helped to capture some of the best footage of the planet in history, and there is value in that. He's mediocre of evolution but Life on Earth will retain its importance long after he's gone.

Isnt it nuts that if you make it to 100 you've been an old person longer than were ever a young person? Go back 50 years and he was already an old man, and whats the point of even living that long if for the last 30 years youve pratically been a feeble old man that cant even fuck or do fun things?

Still as true as the day it was written, why are burgers like this?
>>
>>220377709
You didn't do anything interesting in your 20s and wasted your youth.
>>
It's gonna be hard to see him go one day.
Always loved nature documentaries.
As a kid watching with my dad, and still watching new and old ones by myself and hearing that familiar voice. It'll be sad when I just hear AI replications of that voice.
I wonder if one could measure his impact in people's knowledge what it would be. I feel like it's tremendous.

Happy Birthday.

I'll check it out,

You also wasted your youth, in fact, that's an incredibly common realization many come to and reason the midlife crisis is a thing.

He should get a sticky for his 100th anniversary, we only get ones when people die, we should celebrate him achieving the 100.
>>

Better at what, acting? They had totally different careers.

I've also wasted my youth, but with regards to people who haven't, are they really content with the best years of their lives being behind them? Do memories of a well spent youth really cure middle age crisis? Wouldn't the downgrade in quality of life also affect them? Or do they just resign themselves to old age while reminiscing about better times, knowing that each passing day of their lives just gets worse and worse?
>>
>>220378850
>Lions
>best animals
Lions are fucking cruel, even for animals. Lions live one of the worst lives of any mammals.
>>
>>220378839
Yes acting. And just a far more remarkable person imo. David on the other hand worked at the beeb for decades and no doubt raped a few kids with saville and every other nonce at the BBC.

okay, cool. Should watch this again.

All animals documentaries are filled with stage shit. They literally just drop the prey to its hunter or straight hold it so the predator could catch it.

Attenborough has been marked by the ursine angel of death now, he will not make 101. It will be like Final Destination, but with more marmalade.

lol yea so we got like 10 hours of documentary just SHITTING on jeets. whoever makes these must really hate them
