This is one of the worst AAA movies I have ever seen. Most of the time I had no idea what the fuck is going on. Ridley Scott is such a talentless hack holy shit
What makes a movie AAA?
>>220380238big name actors
>>220380220>gaymer retard>can't follow a straightforward filmfigures
yeah he ruined his legacy pumping out slop
>>220380220Tinker tailor soldier spy is even worse, saw tgat with a group abd not one of us could piece together what we just watched
>>220380369You're 80 IQ and brown.
>>220380220>AAA movieshuh? what's that?
>>220380220It's literally one of Ridley's best modern films and one of the most underrated films of the past 15 years.
It's a great script that doesn't quite translate to screen. The "DVD" scene feels a lot worse in the script than it does in the movie. Cameron Diaz is an awful choice for Malkina, who in general isn't well rendered. Generally speaking the movie would have been better without very well known actors. Other than that, it's good.
>>220380369>POV: zoomer watches a movie
>>220380220>Most of the time I had no idea what the fuck is going on.it's about a lawyer in debt trying to make a drug deal. are you retarded?
Appreciate seeing fellow Counselors in replies defending this masterpiece.
>>220380238It's the battery size
>>220380220It's more like Cormack McCarthy's fault, it's his first try writing a screenplay I think, his novel/book prose doesn't translate well on a movie script, I remember the dialogue for this being very pretentious monologue especially when the cartel boss was talking to fassbender, my ai can produce something similar when given curated prompts.
>>220380220>AAAretard, also filtered, it's his last good one
>>220380220mcarthy writes this script similar to how sorkin writes, where every character has the same voice: the writer’s. aside from that the story is a forgettable crime thriller, shot and acted well by professionals at the top of their industry, but mcarthy’s bleak nihilism leaves the whole thing with an empty, soulless feeling. as for scott, he just shoots the script you give him. if you give him the martian or gladiator he can make an oscar-caliber film, but if you give him this script, he’ll make a good looking but cold and ultimately forgettable film.
>>220382052>the martianRetard
>>220382080psued
>>220380220Malkina tried to steal the stuff by cutting motorcycle guy's head off but the cartel were just too tough and got it back, so she had to go for plan B which was stealing Brad Pitt's money.(I think.)>>220380413>underratedIt's definitely underrated. e.g. The critics all laughing at "truth has no temperature" were retarded. It's an excellent line.>>220380425>Cameron Diaz is an awful choice for MalkinaLots of people say this but I don't see it. She seemed fine to me.Side note: In the full screenplay Malkina gets quite a bit more dialogue in the restaurant at the end and you get a hint of her motivation.Basically she is pregnant with someone's child (Javier Bardem’s?). She says "the best father is a dead father" and implies she is going to bring this child up to be some kind of ubermensch monster who is going to take vengeance on the world for everything it's done to her. Also Cormac definitely thinks civilization is going to break down soon and everything is going to get very icky (he says this in every single novel as well as this film). And Malkina says, more or less, "my son is going to be the biggest badass around when everything starts going to shit."She's the main character of the screenplay as Cormac wrote it.>>220382052>mcarthy writes this script similar to how sorkin writes, where every character has the same voice: the writer’s.Correct. Every single character has to be a homespun Immanuel Kant. It's annoying. It's by far his biggest fault (he does it in the novels too).>as for scott, he just shoots the script you give himAlso correct. Riddley Scott is a good director but not an auteur. He has a great visual sense but nothing more.Give him a good script and he will make a good film that looks great.Give him a crap script and he will make a crap film that looks great. And he won't know the difference.
>>220380369Saw it in the theater with my gf after just seeing Chronicle. It was TRASH. We had no clue what was happening. The only thing I remember is that fat old lady saying she's "underfucked."
>>220383261>Lots of people say this but I don't see it. She seemed fine to me.Her version of being a predatory woman was being an aging whore with a smug face and anime villain voice. She needed to be more beautiful, more flat or unreadable in her affect, and just in general have the kind of presence that Diaz did not bring to it. It's not fully her fault but she didn't work. I also think Fassbender was a bad choice (too weepy).
>>220380220The sense of location is awful. Watch The Hit 1984 for something similar but less clueless
>>220380869I blame them both
>>220380220I only just rewatched it this week after not thinking about it for years and now I see this thread.Stop spying on me pls.
>>220383368Maybe. You have to believe that Javier completely lost his head over her — even though he knows it's all going to end badly and pretty much knows she's evil too, he just doesn't care. But that doesn't mean she has to be stunningly attractive. You just have to believe she's attractive to HIM.The Counselor is not attracted to her. And Penelope Cruz is never worried that he might be. If Malkina was some otherworldly 11/10 she surely would be.I agree she should just be generally more impressive though. She should basically be a little bit scary and she wasn't.
