I didn't read the thread but last night I watched The Thing and what really stuck out to me in that film compared to films made for modern audiences is that no one in Hollywood can act and no one in Hollywood can write now. I think lack of stationary cameras are a big part of it. Previously scenes were shot like as if a window looking into another world. Now the camera jumps around and around, zooming in and out and shaking to and fro to “immerse you in the action!” but it rarely has that effect.
