Incredible action film. If you stop the movie about halfway through, when they lose the T-1000's tail, you can go to bed when the characters go to bed, and start the movie when they wake up, and the movies feels like two-part miniseries.

Does anything else come close? Doesn't have to be sci-fi.

Resident Evil 2 PS1 feels very Terminator 2.

Should I play Resident Evil 1 first or just jump in?

The Departed comes pretty close.

Terminator 2 is like the prequels.

Yeah. Just don't watch it side by side with T1. I made a mistake of seeing them as a double feature in a theatre, and T2 compared to T1 falls extremely flat and is at best an infantile and repetitive 7/10.

T1 is more of a low-budget horror movie though.
I'm not hating. One of my favorite movies is Primer (budget of 7,000), but between the Terminators, I prefer the big budget action movie. I'm not much of a horror guy, but I like Alien 1 better than James Cameron's Aliens.

Nothing even comes close to 80s action slop, bro.

Imo your first RE game can be the original PS1 1 or 2. So like jump in if you want to. Back in the day the first one I ever played on PS1 was 2, and then I went back to 1, and my life wasn't ruined or anything by it being that way.

RE2 summaries the events of RE1 so from a story perspective, it's not really that necessary. You're thrusted in from the perspective of someone completely disconnected from any of the events that occurred in 1. You'll miss some references and background info, but none of it is super crucial. Most people got into the franchise through RE2 anyways so you'll be fine.

Still, RE1 is a very short game. Doesn't hurt to give it a shot. If you want a super friendly version to speed through it, play the DS version. It has a visible map and some QOL features that were introduced in RE3. Ignore anyone who days skip RE1 entirely in favor of the REmake.

Skip RE1 entirely in favor of the REmake
