Author Koji Suzuki Dies at 68; Known for Horror Novels "Ring" and "Spiral"

Author Koji Suzuki (real name: Koji Suzuki), known for horror novels such as "Ring" and "Spiral," died on May 8th at a hospital in Tokyo. He was 68 years old.

He was born in Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture. In 1990, he debuted with "Rakuen," which won the Japan Fantasy Novel Award for Excellence. His 1991 novel "Ring" was made into a hugely successful film, spearheading the "J-horror boom." His 1995 novel "Spiral" won the Eiji Yoshikawa Literary Newcomer Award, and his 2008 novel "Edge" won the Shirley Jackson Award in the United States.
