How can Spielberg hate this movie? It’s so fun and charming.
>>
Unironically believe this film is near perfect.

Lots of Jungian themes, words great with the existing pan mythology. Great performance on Hook and Peter. Tink was pure sexo

I didn’t learn until later in life the Boo Box Pirate was Glen Close. Whoever did the makeup for her was so talented. You can’t even tell her even her voice is pretty tough to find. That scene scarred me as a kid.

toy guns were so kino back then. I used to paint the orange tips black for extra kino.

The war scenes are pure kino. And I am not exaggerating. The music during the fight scene might be one of my favorite John Williams music of all time.

I think we have an obligation to clarify this Pan problem.
This disaster.
Which must be remedied.
Expediently, I agree.
I want my children. For me the stakes can be no higher.
And for me, sir, they can have sunk no lower. And I WANT MY WAR

the set design is very inspired. it looks kind of like a stage or a play, which reinforces the themes of childhood and imagination. rather than just "fantasy", which pretends to be real, the set design in Hook is open about its artifice, connecting us to the real world and and how these stories arise from our desire to create
>>
>>220401092
Should've won that oscar for this desu
>>
Some of the coolest sets in any movie. The entire pirate town and pirate ship sets are insane.
>>
>>220400490
Spielberg tends to shit on his movies that reveal his childlike fondness for pulp entertainment like Temple of Doom and Hook, because ultimately those are the movies most true to his heart while his drama films he brags about really aren't. He feels ashamed of it because he must be known as the Serious Director Who Made Schindler's List above all
>>
>>220401093
I had Peter's sword and Hook's multi-tool hook hand thing.
I was severely bummed when it could no longer fit on my hand as I got bigger.
>>
>>220401326
In his defense of Temple of Doom, Lucas was in a really awful, mean and pissed away place in his life when he was writing Temple.
>>
>>220401360
Few people realize how much Lucas' divorce changed everything for him. After getting cucked by a younger man and Marcia leaving him at the height of his career he retreated into quiet family life raising adopted children as a single father and it very much defined the direction of the Star Wars prequels with shit like Jar Jar. Remember that the original plan was for the sequels to be made in the 80s, and then the prequels later

>>220400490
It was a dream project for him with massive expectations for it and it just didn't deliver critically or commercially

He's said he would do the movie completely differently given the chance, with the exception of the first act which he's happy wirth and imo represents some of his best work
>>
>>220401326
Imagine Schindler's List, but with the same level of inspired and imaginative set designs as Hook. Rather than just being "fantasy", which pretends to be real, the set design in such a film could have been open about its artifice, connecting us to the real world and and how the stories of the holocaust arise from our childlike desire to create.

Rufio was too cool and he should have lived.

Easy re-write. He is seriously injured and Tinkerbell can't save him, Neverland magic can't heal him, he has go home, and grow up. They take Rufio to London and ask the retired Wendy Darling to look after one last boy, Rufio.

There's a whole bunch of problems with the movie but the sets sure ain't one of them

I still love it though faults and all and I'd put it in my top five 'Bergs

The Tim Curry Hook was awesome. This whole show was great. Shame that Disney now owns the rights to this one too and presumably it will never see a re-release lest it compete with their version. The Tim Curry Hook was actually menacing since he was larger than all the other pirates.

Yes but a fable was woven around him that never took place in real life.
I am sure that, by now, the wiki page is full of 2nd and 3rd place "reports" that confirm the NOVELS plot.
As I say again, the published work Schindler's List is a work of fiction, and the subsequent movie is a pure fantasy.

AI Overview
Yes, Captain Hook is a central character in J.M. Barrie’s original Peter Pan stories. He first appeared as the main antagonist in the 1904 play Peter Pan; or, The Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up and later in the 1911 novelization Peter and Wendy, serving as Peter Pan's archenemy and captain of the Jolly Roger.
>>
>>220400490
Idk, maybe he thoughy that a movie avout a middle aged guy in tights, pretending to be Peter Pan, boy who never grew up as a concept was pretty cringe. Which it is.
Such terrible terrible movie. At least it doesn't feel like Williams was trying to force his improv to make it even more about himself for once...

>Dante Basco was born on August 29, 1975 in Pittsburg, California as Dante Roman Titus Basco. He's an American actor & producer best known for his role in Steven Speilberg's "Hook" (1991). He gained notoriety in 2009 when he claimed that he smoked crack-cocaine in a limosine with Barack Obama and that the president then went on to perform oral sex on him.
