/trek/ bros i recently finished Voyager and I'm so disappointed. The show had so much potential. I'm so disappointed I don't even feel like watching Enterprise. What sci fi show should I watch next? I'm planning on watching Babylon 5, Battlestar Galactica, one of the Stargate shows, Farscape, Andromeda and maybe Andor. I never watched anything Star wars. Do any of these shows actually deliver/fulfill their premise?

I hate how modern television shows have their dialogue dumbed down severely. It's either because they know the audience isn't paying attention (second screen viewing), or the audience is too low IQ to understand articulate characters. And it's going to get even worse as media is made for Gen Alpha who is stuck at a 2nd grade reading level.
TNG and DS9 dialogue genuinely feels like it's coming from another world.

>>
>>220416423
A scene so completely low IQ and braindead that it's incredible it was ever made.
>>
>>220416362
the actors are doing their best, the blame is not on them
it's just barely star trek at all to begin with and refuses to have good scripts to make up for that. so many inconsistencies my head hurts, so many actual mistakes left in the master. and WHY THE FUCK won't the camera stop moving around people at mach 5, zoom, shakycam when we're doing technobabble? The technobabble ain't even right.
i'm that fag who likes academy and prodigy, i really did give it a chance but with this shit as your first serial after cancellation kurtztrek was doomed from the start. it almost tastes bitter, like kurtz wanted to piss all over star trek just to show who's boss when he got his initial 5-year deal
didn't expect anything yet i'm still disappointed

ENT S3 is kinda like "what if VOY followed through on its premise." Hell, I'd say it even does the split crew premise better even though no one ever talks about the MACOs.
>>
>>220416539
Hopefully this is bait but no, you could perform objectively perfectly and still lose because your opponent had advantages you didn't have.
>>
I decided to check out Prodigy last night. It's nice to hear Kate Mulgrew again but every single other aspect of the show seems AI generated, like I've seen all of this shit already in other shows and it's so formulaic that it doesn't even seem like the work of actual humans.
>overconfident but bumbling (and lucky!) lead
>competent bad girl with heart of gold
>silly pig man from space brooklyn
>giant rock monster but girl
>goo that coos like a baby
I swear this shit is generated by sampling 10,000 previous cartoon shows and boiling them down to common tropes.
At least the ship looks alright, I guess. Thank you for attending my Daystrom Institute address.

how far did you get? it's a kids show on nickelodeon, they are legendary for running a tight ship on what their shows are and are not allowed to do so the formulaic nature probably stems from you watching nick toons before. first season gets good quick imho, around the point where it becomes clear that their leader is exactly that - overconfident and lucky, but not in charge and scared af under the surface. that's the episode where they have to choose between contacting the federation and running.

I like how TNG and DS9 spent so much time building up the Maquis specifically as a major backstory for VOY, but once VOY decided to do absolutely nothing with the Maquis DS9 just turned them into a minor occasional annoyance who meet an anticlimactic end.

The one with the Christopher Columbus letter was pretty good
> > ...The same childhood friend reported in a letter that Gul Dukat had provided one of the captured Bajoran women to him. He wrote,"While I was on the station, I captured a very beautiful Baj woman, whom the said Gul gave to me. When I had taken her to my quarters she was naked-as was their custom. I was filled with a desire to take my pleasure with her and attempted to satisfy my desire. She was unwilling, and so treated me with her nails that I wished I had never begun. But-to cut a long story short-l then took a piece of rope and whipped her soundly, and she let forth such incredible screams that you would not have believed your ears. Eventually we came to such terms, I assure you, that you would have thought that she had been brought up in a school for whores

First 2 seasons are hurt by the main characters being unlikeable idiots, Vulcans retconned into being assholes, a running time travel plot that goes nowhere and serves no purpose other than to tell the audience that Archer is the most important human ever, tons of contradictions to established lore, and the occasional contrived excuse to have TNG era elements (holodeck, Borg, Ferengi, etc.).

Season 3 adds Manny Coto to the writing staff and has a clearer vision of what it wants to be. If you liked the Dominion War or are among those who feel Voyager wasted its premise, I think you'd enjoy S3.

S4 has the creators reduced to figureheads and the actual showrunners are genuine Star Trek fans course correcting the show into being about the founding of the Federation. It never really gets particularly great, but it shows promise. Maybe that's actually a reason not to watch it if you don't want to be bummed out about what could have been.

The finale is easily the worst thing with the "Star Trek" name on it (at least pre-Kurtzman) and retroactively sours Enterprise as well as a classic TNG episode.

As a big Star Trek fan, I have to say that I'm really impressed with the new Star Trek series that have been released since 2017 under Alex Kurtzman's leadership. These shows have managed to capture the spirit of the original series while also bringing something fresh and exciting to the franchise.

Except TOS handled diversity way better than in TNG, DS9, and Voyager. That's not to say TNG, DS9 and Voyager did diversity badly, they didn't. But when they mess up, it was dumb. Kinda like how they hired a fraud for support on writing Native American characters, or how the writers didn't check to see if Kim was actually a Chinese surname. Even the explanation for Picard being a very British man despite being French is dumb as hell.

Starfleet Academy has brought a fresh, new take on the iconic franchise, injecting new life into the beloved universe. The show has embraced diverse storytelling, featuring complex characters with different backgrounds, races, and sexual orientations, allowing audiences to see themselves reflected on screen.

My understanding is that it´s usurped by some TNG characters for no reason instead of giving closure to the actual cast of the show. Since i actually like the characters i don´t want an ending that disrespects them. That´s all.

>>220419228

Personally i liked the early season more than the third season. Time travel aside i enjoyed the explorers approach far more than the soldiers tone it took later. I also felt the first seasons were more character focused and took their time getting the audience to care. S03 did have some good stand alone episodes though so i can´t say i didn´t enjoy it. I also found S04 3 episode arcs quite enjoyable.

Season 1: The Remembrance
Retired and disillusioned, Admiral Picard is pulled back into action when Dahj, a young woman who is actually an advanced organic android (and Data’s "daughter"), seeks his help. After she is assassinated by a Romulan hit squad, Picard recruits a ragtag crew—including pilot Rios, researcher Jurati, and estranged friend Raffi—on the ship La Sirena.
The Mission: Find Dahj's twin sister, Soji, who is working on a massive Borg Cube (The Artifact) reclaimed by Romulans.
The Threat: The Zhat Vash, an ancient Romulan cabal, hates all synthetic life due to a prophecy of a "Destroyer."
The End: Picard saves a colony of synths but dies from a terminal brain condition. His consciousness is transferred into a "golem" (an identical synthetic body), allowing him to live on.
Season 2: The Penance
Picard and crew are suddenly thrust into an alternate, totalitarian timeline (The Confederation) by his old cosmic frenemy, Q. To fix the timeline, they must "slingshot" back to 2024 Los Angeles.
The Mission: Prevent a point of divergence involving Picard’s ancestor, Renée Picard, and a failed NASA mission.
The Subplots:
The Borg Queen: Captured from the alternate timeline, she slowly manipulates/merges with Dr. Jurati, creating a new, more "humanitarian" Borg collective.
Q's Secret: Q is dying and orchestrated this trial to help Picard confront childhood trauma regarding his mother’s death.
The End: Picard "levels up" emotionally, the timeline is restored, and a new Borg faction led by Jurati emerges to help save the galaxy from a spatial anomaly.
Status going into Season 3: Picard is at peace with his past, the synth ban is lifted, and the crew has largely gone their separate ways... until a distress call from Beverly Crusher changes everything.

how do you know?
it always triggers me when our boys come across an alien and say some shit like "he looks about 25"

1. You don't know how these aliens age - there's a Voyager episode called "Innoncence" that comes across a species that literally ages in reverse.
2. You don't know what a year is to this species, why presume everything is about 365 days old?
3. As "Sanctuary" in DS9 showed, some aliens look crusty and ugly as fuck by nature. They could be 10 years old and already look like a raisin.
4. T'Pol is literally 66 and she looks like a human in her 20s.

You don't know how Bajorans and Cardassians age. We know Kira's age but not Dukat's. They could be the same age for all we know.

The Cardassian empire spread a superior culture across the Alpha quadrant, killing the Bajorans would have been a simple solution but instead they chose to uplift the Bajorans with Cardassian values because it was a challenge that a great people deemed a worthy cause.

And leading that valiant effort was a Cardassian named Gul Dukat, perhaps the most important and consequential Cardassian of the 24th century.

I liked Babylon 5 back in its original run, not sure how it holds up but is worth a look. Star Wars honestly I never cared for much beyond the original trilogy. There's always Dune if you're so inclined, I'd recommend the SciFi channel miniseries, it's not without it's problems, but it's decent enough. I also really liked Farscape though another one I haven't watched since it originally aired.

I have never seen Prodigy, but I hate it because of shit I've seen in Memory Alpha articles that just piss me off. No, just fucking no, Medusans are fucking noncorporeal energy beings, they cannot be fucking assimilated by the Borg, that's just stupid and like philosophically incoherent, magical energy being ascension path beats technological hyper-materialism just as assuredly as paper covers rock. What next, Organians and Q assimilated by the Borg? Just fucking preposterous, terrible worldbuilding, I hate it, I can do better in my sleep.

Can the Borg do some telepathic shit? Seems reasonable enough, they've assimilated telepath species before.

Winn is basically the low church protestantism of Prophetism, whereas Kai Opaka strikes me more as the high church Catholic we can have the Federation's scientific pagan explanation alongside our orthodox theological interpretation and it's fine kinda gal

It was on the frontier, it was basically a Little House on the Prairie one room schoolhouse kinda deal, look we have to uplift these Bajoran savages with our enlightened ways, it's the Federation man's burden and we will be resented for it.

They reference it a few times later on, but you're pretty much right. It would've been cool if it became an actual plot point, though.
