this was so much better than the movie
>>
loved this shit as a kid

For real, the movie is kind of boring except a few scenes.
>>
>>220417866
they should make a live action Ghostbusters remake based on the cartoon instead.
When I was a kid I was pissed that in the movie Slimer never became friend with them but it was just one of the ghosts they caught

Wasn't there a weird, newer version of this that started coming on right after the original around 1989 or 90 to keep the 1 hour Ghostbusters block fresh? The art style and jokes were completely different and I remember not liking it but I can't find anything about it. It was clearly meant for younger children but I think their interests had changed by then

Extreme Ghostbusters?
I didn't like that either, but I was almost an adult when it came out

Thanks, good to know.

They reworked the 80s show around then with slightly kiddier designs and more focus on Slimer to appease tv execs who thought Janine’s pointy glasses scared kids

No it was way before 97

Was that when it was called "Slimer and the Real Ghostbusters"? It was bizarre to me as an adolescent because I loved the Ghostbusters and didn't like that they took away 2 30-minute episodes on Saturday mornings and they put on 1 ep of The Real Ghostbusters and then an ep of the newer one. It didn't seem like whatever it was lasted long before both were bumped off the air for newer cartoons

man in the late 90s everything had to be extreme

The intro was terrifying at 6 in the morning. I went from sailor moon cheesecake to this horror show.

Yesterday at Barnes and Noble I saw there was a big coffee table book on the making of this show
>>

That was a pretty fuckin' good cartoon. I still remember how I couldn't figure out how they emergency-powered the containment chamber with the generator from a '59 Caddy, hooked to an exercise bike, since it needed a gazillion volts.

It’s weird how buried this show feels in pop culture given it a probably more significant in making Ghostbusters a pop culture sensation because kids latched onto it. The movie was liked but what made kids obsessed was the cartoon.

Yes it was called Slimer or something. I think it only had like 1 season.

Also they are called the Real Ghostbusters because the movie exists in their world as a biopic based on them.

You DO own the comics, right??

Ironically it was a movie that seemed like they never ran on tv or cable in the 80s and 90s. I saw the sequel come on a lot more, but the original just popped up here and there (your odds went up if you had HBO).

for what it's worth, this is not as bad as it sounds on paper. 'EXTREEEEME' was just the go-to word at the time. and yeah, it has a diverse cast (including a hot goth chick).

but they actually worked the wheelchair dude into the adventures pretty damn well. sometimes it's a hindrance, other times he does rad wheelchair-based tricks to save the day. it doesn't feel too preachy or too tryhard, it's just silly cartoon adventures.

now picrel was the GOAT.

I recall some episodes terriying me because the idea was scary (for a kid's show).
Had to do a dozen keyword searches to find the episode
>The Thing in Mrs. Faversham's Attic
It's been over 20 years. Probably closer to 30 and I can still recall how this ep scared me. It'd be silly now as whatever I'm imagining it's about is going to be infintely more tame than what my memory/imagination made it out to be.

remember the time the studio decided Janine was too acerbic + tomboyish for a kids' show, so they demanded her to be more demure + feminine?
so they wrote a whole episode explaining that the 'old' Janine was secretly possessed by a banshee the whole time?
and then getting rid of the ghost gave her smoother hair and rounder glasses, somehow?

the fuck? the B5 writer? i knew he did comic books but not this

One of the few instances of diversity in cartoon done right.
>1 nigga
>1 latino
>1 guy in a wheelchair
>1 goth girl

yep, that's the guy! i know his name from a ton of random cartoons, he did some of those Before Watchmen comics too (people say they're good, i just have zero interest in them).

i guess a lot of guys are just 'writers for hire'. at the same time David Wise was writing some solid episodes for Batman: TAS, he also wrote that godawful Battletoads cartoon pilot.

cba to watch them, but RLM claimed that last Ghostbusters movie (the sequel to the second reboot) was basically this.

it might work as a TV series but you already had Supernatural and Reaper doing a similar thing. honestly, go watch Lost Girl (picrel). it's like the last of the great Buffy-clones. succubus woman + quirky alt girl set up a detective agency to deal with urban fantasy monster cases. fun.
