One of the biggest issues I see with most of them across the board is that the characters almost always feel like cardboard cutouts with zero personality or, well, character. For instance, other than Leo in Inception having the backstory with his wife committing sudoku and having his kids kidnapped (which arguably isn't even really characterization, it's just a mcguffin to give a reason why he's doing anything in the movie) can you even tell me anything about the personalities of any of the other "characters" in that movie? Can you even remember their names? Same with others, particularly Tenet. There are exceptions like Prestige, but I'm speaking generally. This casting though, it's like he's going out of his way to make it terrible on purpose.
