I used to have a job at a centre for developmentally disabled kids and adults .. basically tard wrangling .. and Family Guy / American Dad were the go to things to distract the clients/patients. but it was also clear dividing line between the real retards and functional ones. The real hard cases couldn’t get enough of it, spitting and choking (sometimes pissing/shitting) laughing because “they got” the comedy. It really was that low IQ simple. I remember one kid came up to me after sitting down with that group and the show for 5 minutes … great guy who understood he had Down Syndrome .., said to me: ‘that show is just stupid.’ It wasn’t mean or anything, he really liked all the other folks and cared about them … he was just stating fact. One of the Docs on staff (psychiatrist) wondered why the show was effective and figured it was because the shows, objectively, hit at about a 8-9 year old’s (male) developmental / language / reasoning level. School counsellors also found that was roughly the age where kids (male) would talk about the show, repeat the jokes, role play it, etc … but grow out of it (‘not cool anymore’) well before puberty. I’m sure McFarlane knows this; he’s said FG is just Simpsons/All in the family dumbed down by notches. He’s done smart smart like Orville and that western movie…. FG/AD is basically comedy muzak, forgettable unfunny background tv. Low effort, cheap to produce.
