even as a kid i never really enjoyed his comedy movies, as an edgy teen i enjoyed him in good will hunting, now i just don't care either way

his stand up comedy stylings would give me anxiety when I watched him. just too much going on. I never really found him funny. I enjoyed that movie where he was a photo tech at Walgreens more than anything he ever did.

His comedy had no cadence or rhythm. It was just fucking 100% all the time. Not for me. Exhausting.
I like him better when he's acting normally. Like in Good Morning Vietnam he's great whenever he's not doing his radio routine.

Today I will remind them that despite his appearing in many children friendly films, Rob Williams was a huge sex-loving pervert. Nothing bad, mind you. Just if you watch his routines he loves talking about pussies and sex. Him hanging himself to "suicide" was 100% a cover up by his family to protect his public image. In reality, he died from auto-errotic asphyxiation. He was just trying to get off and fucked up. As an actor, he falls in the same category of the like of Bill Murray where he was a far better "serious" actor than a comedic actor. He just loved doing comedy. None of his films are bad. As a talking head/guestshow host, always. As a standup, well in his early cocaine years he had his moments. He's funny in the birdcage as a madcap character but he was alaways better in films with a tragic comedy side to them where he can be serious too. He's funny in Good will hunting and dead poets, but when he can be genuinely serious with other good actors he would shine, if the script was good anyway.

films like Flubber and Mrs. Doubtfire were supposed to be comfy family movies, not sidesplitting comedies. You can't insert edgy jokes in a movie mostly catered to kids.
His best role was Birdcage for me by far. Can't say I'm really a huge fan of anything else he's been in but Birdcage is one of my favorite comedies. Everyone in it is great.
