was he actually unfunny?
>>
even as a kid i never really enjoyed his comedy movies, as an edgy teen i enjoyed him in good will hunting, now i just don't care either way

He was funny in Robots
>>
his stand up comedy stylings would give me anxiety when I watched him. just too much going on. I never really found him funny. I enjoyed that movie where he was a photo tech at Walgreens more than anything he ever did.
>>
I always foud him unfunny but i like his drama films.
Like Jim Carrey.
>>
>>220424162
Very. Tryhard and obnoxious
>>
>>220424162
>Whats the deal with platypuses? did God SMOKE WEED?
hack
>>
He was boomer-level humor, and only funny to them. Not unlike these guys:
Adam Sandler : Genx
Will Ferrell : Millennials
None of them were remotely funny except to those of their target cultural generation.
>>
>>220424162
In my experience the people who complained a lot about him being unfunny, turned out to be way more insufferable than he ever was so I just assumed it was some kind of envy thing
>>
>>220424519
I mean that's a fair question those are very bizarre creatures nigga had to be ripped to the gills off that Charlie Kirk pack smdh
>>
I can't really explain it but he has the physiognomy of an evil untrustworthy person.
>>
One of the least trustworthy and most punchable faces ive ever seen, no joke
>>

He just looks like you, anon.

The picture in >>220424628 is your picture and not Robin Williams, Google thought you looked like Robin Williams for some reason
>>
His comedy had no cadence or rhythm. It was just fucking 100% all the time. Not for me. Exhausting.
>>
I like him better when he's acting normally. Like in Good Morning Vietnam he's great whenever he's not doing his radio routine.
>>
>>220424162
The real truth nuclear explosion is no he was never funny. Unironically his best roles are the roles in which he plays a serious character like in good will hunting. Same with Jim Carrey. Jim Carrey was good in Truman Show but awful in le funny face fligugiggu roles.
>>
>>220424162
a glorified clown
like Jim Carrey
>>
I sympathize with him being a tortured soul but the "hey hey hey I have to be spitballing 'riffs' literally 24/7 or I'll go insane!" thing would get extremely obnoxious.
Also, the joke thievery is unforgivable imo. Should have been run out of town (the comedy world) on a rail for that.

His dramatic roles are fine.
>>
>>220424162
All the people who said he was unfunny on Twitter recently, turned out to be unfunny midwits and hacks, so I guess he probably was funny.

Reality...What A Concept is one of the greatest comedy albums of all time
>>
Today I will remind them that despite his appearing in many children friendly films, Rob Williams was a huge sex-loving pervert.
Nothing bad, mind you. Just if you watch his routines he loves talking about pussies and sex.
Him hanging himself to "suicide" was 100% a cover up by his family to protect his public image.
In reality, he died from auto-errotic asphyxiation.
He was just trying to get off and fucked up.

As an actor, he falls in the same category of the like of Bill Murray where he was a far better "serious" actor than a comedic actor. He just loved doing comedy.
None of his films are bad. Most, in fact, are great. But none are funny.
>>
>>220424802
what jokes did he steal? Never heard about this.
>>
>>220424162
Several people find themselves stuck in a character people expect them to play, they try to get people to see who they really are, but people only expect the character they play.
Usually the loud joker in a friend circle, always centre of attention and heard clearly, people like them and think they are funny, but that's not who they are.

Rik mayall was the same, sophisticated and classically trained, but people only saw him as Richard Richard or Lord Flashart, Robin was lucky enough to get his break with Good Morning Vietnam.
>>
>>220425499
He was notorious for this to the point that when he entered a comedy club people would just walk off stage immediately because they didn't want their jokes stolen by him.
>>
>>220425493
He had to get it on.
>>
>>220424521
>Adam Sandler : Genx

Lots of millennials thought Sandler was funny as children including myself.
>>
he was funny as Mork, but most people don't know that by now
>>
>>220425934
>>220425499
He did what the Romans would do. Take things and improve upon them.
>>
>>220424162
He was fun in kids movies and did a decent job in dramas, but I find his attempts at actual comedy annoying at best. I get why he's so beloved though, he was a huge part of a lot of people's childhoods, myself included, and he had a kind demeanor.
>>
As a talking head/guestshow host, always. As a standup, well in his early cocaine years he had his moments. He's funny in the birdcage as a madcap character but he was alaways better in films with a tragic comedy side to them where he can be serious too. He's funny in Good will hunting and dead poets, but when he can be genuinely serious with other good actors he would shine, if the script was good anyway.
>>
>>220424521
I liked Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, Anger Management, and Sandler's comedy albums as a kid/teen. No clue how well they've held up though.

Also, fuck off, Ferrell was funny as hell on SNL, as the Architect in that Matrix spoof, in Old School, Anchorman, The Other Guys, and Step Brothers.
>>
>>220424521
This is what Shane Gillis will be for gen z
>>
>>220424162
I like him more as a serious actor.
He was supposed to play The Joker in The Dark Knight.
>>
>>220426362
most reasonable post in thread
>>
>>220424162
he was funny, he was just also in a significant number of stinkers as well as good movies
>>
>>220426425
Ferrell only had one joke and one character: screaming manchild. Notice how he couldn’t pivot to more mature movies like Carrey and Sandler because he has no range.
>>
>>220426477
Would've been horrible lmao. Imagine some genie tier 100mph bit about how be got the scars
I liked him though rip
>>
>>220426679
Heath Ledger was the better choice but I still kinda wonder about a Robin Williams performance.
>>
>>220424162
He was a good actor but a mediocre comedian
>>
>>220426362
>>220426981
Good posts, I find a lot of his comedic acting quite funny but it's definitely a case where he needs a good director who knows when to rein him and and when to turn him loose. He was also very good at lending dramatic weight to corny or silly material like Dead Poet's Soceity or Jumanji.
>>
>>220426679
I genuinely thought he would have been a good Riddler. His frantic delivery style, where he's jumping from thought-to-thought could have played well with Edward Nigma's overactive mind. Better than Jim Carrey's unsanctionable buffoonery, at least.

He probably would have worked better in a Tim Burton universe, though.
>>
>DUDE COCAINE LMAO
This degenerate shouldn't have been allowed near children
>>
One hour photo was kino.
>>
films like Flubber and Mrs. Doubtfire were supposed to be comfy family movies, not sidesplitting comedies. You can't insert edgy jokes in a movie mostly catered to kids.
>>
His best role was Birdcage for me by far. Can't say I'm really a huge fan of anything else he's been in but Birdcage is one of my favorite comedies. Everyone in it is great.
>>
>>220424162
His kids stuff was really good and obviously watching kids stuff as an adult isn't going to land as well.
Good actor as well, good in serious stuff, good for adding levity to otherwise serious stuff, but also good for adding seriousness in less serious movies. So he works really well in movies.

I think that is kind of the problem with his comedy though, without context it isn't great, it works really well in movies, and well, that is what hes known for.

World's Greatest Dad. Wasn't that his final role too? We see his balls in the movie
>>
>>220424403
yes his standup/ad libbing is way too harried. he absolutely seemed like someone that learned to blabber in moments of stress or strife rather than actually deal with the situation at hand. turned a terrified coping mechanism into a career, no wonder he couldn't stand it anymore
>>
>>220435990
>Wasn't that his final role too?
Nope

>Robin Williams’ final film role was voicing the dog Dennis in the 2015 British sci-fi comedy Absolutely Anything.

>In Absolutely Anything, Williams lent his voice to Dennis, a foul-mouthed canine who serves as a moral guide to a teacher who gains magical powers. The film, directed by Terry Jones of Monty Python fame, was released posthumously in 2015 and marked Williams’ last completed project, showcasing his comedic talents even in a CGI role. While the movie received mixed reviews, it stands as a poignant final testament to his versatility and humor.

I liked him as an actor, but his stand-up is so-so
>>
>>220425896
>Rik mayall was the same, sophisticated and classically trained, but people only saw him as Richard Richard or Lord Flashart
Suggest some good serious Rik Mayall kinos?
>>
>>220426590
Carrey sucks at serious. Sandler is pretty good when he tries, though
>>
>>220424162
Lol at this new attempt to make Robin Williams seem unfunny. Yes he was funny and he was entertaining. He was a nut who could improvise easily and get a room laughing with ease. This is a skill. He wasn’t some incredible god worthy actor but he was funny and he worked at it for years from tv to films. Sorry to burst your bubble but he was valid.

It was Carlos Mencia

I don't buy it without a source.
I'll easily believe he was meant for the Tim Burton movie or its sequels though.

>nooo you can't bad mouth someone unless you're better or richer than them!!

Jim Carrey's stand up and impressions were so horribly cringe. Like a child trying to impress his dad's friends with silly faces that go on way too long.
>>
>>220424162
I loved this movie has a kid i use to watch this on vhs a lot i was born in 07 so I grew up on vhs and dvds
>>
>>220424162
He was ok in few doses. Very annoying irl
>>
>>220436409
Honestly? The interviews he did, especially around the quad bike incident.
It's heartbreaking that he was trapped in the character because he didn't want to disappoint his fans that he loved dearly, around that time he mellowed out and lowered the act because he had to.
As much of a meme the film is Drop Dead Fred has a genuinely sad ending and he did it well, just in a film where he's being that character so it gets lost.
One of the best things is that most of his material is good, he either embraced the character because he knew his fans wanted it and he loved making them happy, or he did a great serious role that went under the radar because it's not what people expected.
So give the Bottom live shows a watch, they are amazing.
He was in 2 episodes of Johnathan Creek; Black canary being the best, although he was named Gideon Pryke
He had a series called Rik Mayall presents, also great.

But remember two other roles;
He was cast as Peeves in Harry Potter and all his scenes got cut because he kept making the other actors laugh and break character.
He also voiced 40 different pigs in Hogs of War.
>>
>>220425493
I'm pretty sure he killed hmimself because he was diagnosed with dementia
>>
>>220424162
He was great in Fisher King, Aladdin, Patch Adams, and entertaining as a talk show guest. I bet you this psyop to question his comedic talent is because he isn't jewish and made jokes at everyones expense huh? ;)

Good point
>>
>>220441142
It's sad that his mind got really bad i wonder what drugs or whatever did that, him saying he wants to reboot his brain makes me wonder if he should have done a high dose of DMT or Ayuhasca or something and he might not have offed himself
>>
>>220441464
>>
>>220441479
Has anyone done tests what if he took a high dose of DMT or some heroic dose of psychedelic maybe that would have helped a little bit like rebooted his brain in a way i don't know
>>
>>220424162

I always found him cringe and gay, the way I find other tryhard one-note hacks cringe and gay, including Carlin, Hart, and especially Silverman and Seth Weed Rogan. There's a shitton of them, and they all suck much ass.

However, he did a great job in Aladdin as a cartoon persona. In all honesty, his personality made him more suitable to be a cartoon VA, rather than an actual actor or comic.
His dramatic performances are okay, but his standup is basically unwatchable garbage.

The man is clearly manic, and on very very much cocaine, and the audience is either also a shitton of cocaine, or just pity laughing / mock laughing a visibly distressed mentally ill man. He's not funny. The pain and distress comes through way too much.
>>
>>220424729
>The real truth nuclear explosion is no he was never funny.
not true. he was hella funny on the first year of mork. then became less funny as the show went on. it was obvious drugs fucked him up during that time because if you watch the show you can see it. the episode where mork meets robin williams was depressing to me as a kid because robin seemed like a really sad dude
>>
>>220426450
Or more like the entirety of streamer humor.
>>
>>220436450
It's because a woman said something negative about his comedy, so the simps have to fall in line.
>>
>>220426477
>well hellooo beautiful
