What the fuck happened to Star Wars?
>>
>>220432879
the movie Star Wars had special effects that were beyond people's wildest dreams. the POV of a spaceship skimming along the vast surface of a space station etc. Thrilling like nothing before so that even people in the 90s seeing it on VHS were mind blown. Now, I don't think you can do it. I don't think you can do effects in a movie that anyone will care about. We tried 3D, and a few things, all meh. Nobody gets blown away by visuals now that we have CGI. So in order to be a movie on the level of Star Wars, you'd have to blow people's minds with something else. And I don't think a movie can even do that either. I think movies peaked and everything attempting to live up to Star Wars, by using that name, is bound to be tv-tie in tier

you could have won... like 5 hours of stuffing around at the airport and on a plane to see one movie. not even compensated for your inconvenience

I went to see Mortal Kombat 2 today at Dendy Canberra IMAX and they advertised that they'll screen the movie at 12:01am and 6:00am the day it is released. Haven't heard of a movie getting a midnight screening in at least a decade? Plus I've never heard of a 6am "breakfast screening" either. They're really hoping this movie is gonna do big numbers?

It being made.

Typical autistic retard take. Star Wars was WAY more than just special effects you fucking retard. Avatar had impressive sfx and nobody gave a shit after it left theaters. Try thinking harder next time.

I watched the Motion Picture (Trek) recently and that miniature work looks good to this day.
Meanwhile 5 year old movies look like crap.
How?

they didn't even have that etched, it's literally just some off the shelf product with a fucking sticker

Nothing other than it's Star Wars

nobody said the padlock was the prize. i don't eat the packaging my food comes in but i'd be miffed if i was served food in a dirty wooden crate by one of the richest restaurants in the world
>>
>>220436595
If you're doing a themed event put some fucking effort into it, they could have 3D printed a green shell or whatever in half an hour and glued that to the lock.
>>
>>220436595
anyone could replicate that padlock and create dozens of fake ones. part of the reason things are etched/stamped are to prove it's not a bootleg

Presumably the sap who will be dealing with a dozen people claiming to have found it and not got their prize.
>>
>>220435197
Wrong. Other films were good back then, check this out
>https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_American_films_of_1977
Star Wars is a good story with an oscar winning soundtrack, but it surpassed the field because of special effects. Ray Harryhausen puppets were still the peak of fantasy at that time.

>Presumably the sap who will be dealing with a dozen people claiming to have found it and not got their prize.
You take whatever they put inside it as proof. A key, token, coupon, whatever they have in there
>>
>>220432879
>What the fuck happened to Star Wars?
they make woke propaganda that nobody watches. but instead of changing that, because they're so fucking stupid, they say "oh no, it must just be marketing, or advertising, or..." or some reason other than what theyve made is awful and nobody wants to watch it. so they spend millions, slap ads everywhere, and thats why today i saw a lifesized cardboard mandalorian standing in my local burgerking.
>>
>>220436055
hell yeah. get high and watch something else
>>
>>220432879
Would be funny if nobody bothered to find it and the lock became a permanent fixture to the fence.
>>
>>220432955
Rots opening scene is still phenomenal
>>
>>220437992
I read through the entire list and the only movie I've heard of is Star Wars. Clearly it was not that good of a year if all but one movie were completely forgettable and lost to time.
>>
>>220438335
You were supposed to mouse over the films and see that every single one features an actor or auteur director whose name is legend today. The usual caveats about selective memory and only remembering the good parts just don't apply to 1977.

>what's wrong with this?
Theres nothing Star Wars about a padlock with a sticker on it. It maybe might make sense if it was a heist movie or something. They could have had a bunch of actors in mandalorian suits right in the city and if you said "this is the way" or some other quip they give you tickets. That would have drummed up way more hype than whatever this is. A padlock with a sticker on it might be fine to promote some low budget indie movie/game, but not the first Star Wars movie to come out in 7 years. Its baffling.
>>
>>220441553
99% of people won't think this much about it and will just consider it an unusual challenge to find & unlock
>>
>>220441733
Thats not the point of marketing you autist
>>
>>220441794
Yeah it is. It's a simple finders-keepers contest. No idea why you're having a fit over it.
>>
>>220435078
Relative to most other countries not really. There is plenty of bullshit of course but compared to the U.K or the shittier parts of the U.S Australia is doing above average.
Everything worldwide seems to be getting worse though, we could catch up eventually in shittyness

Yes, I don't know where all the downplaying in this thread is coming from
The big issue we have here is that voting is mandatory so it's really hard for change to happen, with one nation starting to emerge to relevance that represents positive change but only a very minor change
