>the most useful and rational member of the Nostromo in your path
>>220436991Bonus?
>Parker in Alien>Apone in Aliens>Dillon in Alien 3The franchise has a tradition of rational black guys. Dillon was probably my favorite because of the lead mold scene.
>>220436991not ridley? at least he wasn't a retard like the rest of them
>>220436991>not go to a mysterious out of the way signal, and go home to party instead>freeze the infected guy instead of leaving him to wake up>Lambert, get the fuck out of the way so I can kill the monster and not frag you tooIf they had listened to him at any point, they'd have lived
>>220437069what bonus?
>>220437135Ridley is a great character, but she didn't really get to do much until most of the cast was already dead
>>220436991>Get out of the way Lambert!>I caaaant waaaahhhAnd that mother fucker was getting a bigger bonus, baka
>Ripley, open the airlock door.>I'm sorry, Dallas and Lambert, but I can't do that. You see, we came here on purpose to trick you guys into going outside. Now I'm Captain. We're leaving and going to split your shares of the bonus between us. Goodbye.
>>220437198>>220437739I just want to point out that the movie establishes that Lambert is very bad at dealing with highly stressful situations so it doesn't come out of left field when she freezes up out of fear when facing the Xenomorph at the end and doesn't listen to Parker. It's not bad writing because some people can and will react like that in real life not everyone can be 100% rational in a life or death situation. Parker being a standup guy sacrificed himself for the slim chance she would use that opportunity to run away to safety rather than blasting them both.
They pulled the same tricks Scotty did in Star Trek. Always tell the captain that it will take way longer than it actually does. Then you look like miracle workers.
Parker is 100% based.
>>220439192Just like Anne Sullivan
>>220437069>tfw I see my shitty OC Brettjak still in circulation all these years laterReally warms the 'ol cockles
>>220437282I didn't know Ridley had trooned out and started retroactively putting himself in his own films, but I can't say I'm surprised at this point
>>220437092Apone was a fucking moron.
why wouldn't WY just let Rain leave Jackson's Star?
>>220436991oh yeah if he's so smart then how come he died and ripley lived
>>220439469How? The guy had a bumbling POG for a superior feeding him shit orders and got ambushed my an enemy literally crawling out of the walls and ceiling in a low visibility area, none of which was really his fault. The only stupid things I’d say he did were stripping his squad of their ammo (which says more about their discipline if they can’t be trusted to use flamers without it being their only option and Vasquez using the minigun anyway) and not saying fuck Gorman’s static filled chatter while initiating a fighting retreat the second it was clear they were unprepared.
parker did nothing wrong and he deserves a bonus>Hey, let's not go to that dangerous alien planet and poke around>they do>Hey, let's freeze this infected guy>they don't>Hey, let's stick together and go kill this thing>they don'tthey didn't listen to him because he was black. the rampant racism was unbearable.
>>220437282I wouldn’t say that. Ripley’s first notable attempt at keeping shit from going south was refusing to open the door to let Caine in per quarantine procedures. Ash just went over her head.
>>220439469>>220439844>as a kid blame Gorman entirely for what went wrong>grow up and do an enlistment, figure out it was Apone's fault
>>220439903You get the sense he can be pretty annoying to everyone but Brett, so despite having the right take every time, no one wants to listen to him because he's known for lying about how long a repair will take, whining about money, etc.
>>220439192When you do any sort of repair work it’s generally a good practice to give an estimated time window longer than what you think it’ll actually take. Gives you more time in case something goes wrong during the repairs or if you notice something that was missed during the first once over. The brownie points you get for finishing the work earlier than anticipated are just a nice bonus.
>>220439987Explain. Like I said we can definitely lay taking his people’s primary form of defense and not pulling them out sooner regardless of orders at his feet, but beyond that I don’t see how this isn’t on Gorman.
>>220439987Good fucking catch.>senior non-commissioned officer>gets told to send his Marines in virtually unarmed>complies with order instead of recommending pulling out even though there's no urgencyThe disaster is actually Apone's fault. When Gorman tells them no rifles or grenades, that is prime time for his senior enlisted man (Apone) to have a talk about taking a pause and figuring out another way to do this. He kinda starts to do that, but lets Gorman walk over him. That's where the command fuckup is- Apone letting Gorman give a bad order. He's the more experienced of the two and is supposed to use that experience to help new lieutenants, and doesn't. His job as senior NCO to a fresh lieutenant is literally to do that, and he fails.
Why did they put Lambert in charge of navigating for Dallas? He needs accurate information and directions while he traverses the shafts trying to flush out the alien. Lambert is extremely emotional and utterly unreliable.>Lambert where do I go?>AUUGHUGH>Where's the alien>HGUHUHUHUHHH OHH NOOO>Lambert I need literally anything here>HUHGAAAGHGH IT'S THERE OHH GODDD RUN NOO NOT THAT WAYYY UUEEHHHWhat the fuck? Put Ripley on it.Actually, this would be a great time to put Ash on it because at least then, when Dallas gets fed useless information that leads directly to his death it would actually make sense in the context of the movie.
>>220436991>the most useful and rational member of the Nostromothis guy
>>220440163Problem is they weren’t left entirely unarmed. By receiving the order to use incendiaries Apone was technically still sufficiently prepared given Ripley likely explained the fire thing at some point. He’d catch hell because of that technicality if he pulled out to reassess. The military seems to be addicted to hobbling soldiers and screaming at them when they try to explain a bandaid isn’t going to fix the issue.
>>220439805It's called chivalry. You modern boimales wouldn't understand.
>>220440163it was weird watching apone let some little peckerwood talk over him and get all his dudes killed
>>220440262the tracking device was designed by Ash, Dallas was fucked no matter what.
>tfw one less person gets a cut of the bonus
>>220440455Bit of a tonal whiplash, yeah. Apone’s apparently got enough of a good relationship with his squad that they feel comfortable joking around with him or even mouthing off to an Lt. with him in the room despite knowing they’ll catch shit for it. Generally an NCO like that is the kind of guy who’d refuse to let his people walk into a meatgrinder unprepared. If not for the fact that he’s attached to them then for the fact that he knows them well enough to understand how hard not having access to the tools they work best with would hamper their efficacy.
>>220440542Hey that's exactly my point though. There's nothing wrong with Lambert being an irrational crybaby who gets someone like Parker killed. I just think knowing she's an irrational crybaby and putting her in charge of arguably the single most important task is a giant detriment to the movie. If Dallas was in the exact same position it would suddenly be absolutely flawless. He gives Dallas bad directions and leads him to his death on purpose because he's a malicious android. It'd be great.
>>220440634*Ash, fuck
>>220440582>Jones received everyone bonus because Ripley never made it back after AliensThat furry little bastard played them all like fiddles. I bet the cunt could’ve taken the xeno while it was still a baby, he just knew he had more to gain by letting it grow up.
i remember one of the nu-alien movies where the blonde white lady asked the black man for sexreally a movie of its time
>>220440634>If Ash was in the exact same position it would suddenly be absolutely flawless. He gives Dallas bad directions and leads him to his death on purpose because he's a malicious android. It'd be great.Hire this anon>>220440659Hire this anon too
>>220436991>Alien>Corporation is an evil entity that treats its employees like cattle driven to a slaughter. Working men actually try to band together and demand their rights and this is a major plot point. AI is evil and activelly tries to kill them. Art is original and something never seen before. Directed by European.>Aliens>A rag tag group of soldiers goes YEEEHAW TIME TO KILL SOME BUGS EY SARGE >Corporation is kinda still evil but actually sends an outfit to check what happened to the settlers>AI is good and activelly tries to help people>There are no social issues as they would distract from WE'RE IN THE PIPE GOY BY FIVE>Designs are overwrought versions of the original with nonsensical stuff added to Giger's sleek design>Directed by an American whose main gripe on the set was that the people went home after working 8hrs and the studio did not let him treat them like cattle.
>>220440621From Apone's perspective, it shouldn't be a meat grinder. They have never encountered anything actually any real aliens before. Anything actually dangerous would be people with guns and explosives. From what they know, they're facing beasts that will charge and try to fight in melee range. It seems like it will be a cake walk to the marines if the aliens are actually real. A dozen troops even just with flame throwers should be able to torch them easily since they expected to see the enemy from plenty of distance away. And if they started to get overwhelmed, the LTs plan was to lay down suppressing fire and fall back by squad to the APC, which would have worked if communication didn't break down. They had overwhelming firepower against what they saw as a pathetic enemy and hubris got them killed.
>>220440742It had been 57 years since then. Things change drastically in one decade, none the less six decades.
>>220440742>Corporation is kinda still evil but actually sends an outfit to check what happened to the settlersYou say this like it’s a problem. The company had everything to gain by sending a unit out there. They clear a hostile organism, thereby saving a multimillion dollar installation, and they potentially get a specimen courtesy of Burke. From a business standpoint it’s pretty smart.
>>220440742Cameron is Canadian.
>>220440742>>220440995The corporation is not evil. They have a force of marines to protect all their colonists. The colonists lifestyles are fine and everyone is happy. The marines are in fact really bored with their jobs since nothing ever happens. They just get to their destination, find out it was some stupid mistake, then get to fuck colonist daughters for a while before leaving. Burke is the only person who was interested in the alien story, he saw it as his chance to get a payday. Then when it went catastrophically wrong, he wanted to cover up his role in the disaster and still try to salvage his payday. The story is far more interesting as a single executive trying to sneakily get ahead then make successive mistakes that cause it to snowball. That's better than le generic evil company wants to kill all its slave employees yet again.
>>220437092>Yeah, well, you don't wanna know me, lady. I'm a murderer and rapist of women. Not only rational, but based.
>Yaphet Kotto was born in New York as the son of nurse Gladys Marie and businessman Avraham Kotto (real name Njoki Manga Bell). His father, Avraham, was a Hebrew-speaking Jewish prince from Cameroon who immigrated to the United States in the 1920s. Kotto's father was raised Jewish and his mother converted to Judaism.>Kotto's great-grandfather, King Alexander Bell, also a Jew, ruled the Douala region of Cameroon in the late 1800s. According to Kotto, his family moved from Palestine via Egypt to Cameroon, where many colored Jews of African descent lived. Kotto's family practiced Judaism, and the male members of the family wore a kippah.>Kotto was versed in the Hebrew liturgy and incorporated Jewish prayers at turning points throughout his life. He said his father "instilled Judaism" in him.
>>220440874>>220440621I mean, the whole thing is unreasonable.>Apone, I have just been informed that you are under the primary heat exchangers of the reactor, any damage to those and we risk meltdown; fall back and we'll reevaluate a plan, small arms and flame units until you are clear. No reason not to explain it, they aren't on a timer at that point after all.
>>220442934DAS RITE!
>>220443038It's like the cops that refuse to back down and feel the need to shoot the suspect immediately. They don't want to wait and retreat. It makes them feel like cowardly cucks
>>220436991What movie are we talkin' about here?
The martial could have saved them.
Why did Ash with all of his android logic try to kill Ripley in the stupidest way possible? Now granted maybe this was before Weyland-Yutani was producing androids with super strength like later movies but even at normal human strength strangling her or even just bashing her head in with a large object or pipe would've made far more sense. If he was trying to keep her quiet so that the rest of the crew wouldn't hear and intrude he could've used a pillow to suffocate her. What a moron.
>>220444337For me, it was trying to tighten the magazine the wrong way and nearly ripping the pages.
>>220436991parkers aren't very common irl or on the screeni like that this character shares my name
>>220444337Canon is that Ash has no sexual organs but with his programming is obsessively curious about human's reproduction. So in that way of attacking Ripley he was exploring rape and penetrating her. He was also malfunctioning. The androids were never super powered nor indestructible. The later directors that turned them into Terminators never understood the alien setting. And that includes Ridley.
>>220444081i love how people explode when exposed to vacuum in this movie
>>220444426I was mostly nitpicking but this is a good explanation. Attacking her mouth could also be a result of him being interested in the alien by mimicking the way they reproduce in the face hugger stage of the cycle.
