There is something about modern movies that makes them all look uninspired and low quality even when they have huge budgets behind them. Hell low budget movies from 30 years ago feel way more soulful and look way more interesting from a visual standpoint. Why is that?
50% of what you are looking at is CGI even in normal sceneslighting is garbage and soulless because they need to keep it flat for the CGI being added later
>>220438192digital pipeline > easier use, more flexibility > lower entry barrier > more mediocrity
>>220438192Because you've jizzed into your own eyes too often, you retarded frog.
>>220438211This. The digital pipeline fucked movies beyond repair.
>>220438240Being low-IQ has fucked you beyond repair. Stop watching capeshit, especially of the Disney variant, and movies will start looking good again. >muh digitalLuddite LARP will not be tolerated.
they don't use enough light + shooting on digital
>>220438192Shit colors and shit lightining, everything looks flat and safe. Only the low IQ normalfag audience doesn’t notice that they are consuming slop.
>>220438265>Luddite LARP will not be tolerated.it's not the tech, it's the stupidity that allows
>>220438311Fuck man, movies used to look so damn good. I am not old enough to have nostalgia for them yet I can see that they are superior to nushit
>>220438312>Only the low IQ normalfag audience doesn’t notice that they are consuming slopIt's only midwits like you who care this much. Dumber people already struggle comprehending what they're seeing, and smarter people don't hyperfocus on current cinematography trend in favor of taking in the entirety of the movie.
>>220438218how many times is too many? asking for a friend
>>220438388>smarter people don't hyperfocus on current cinematographyLmao, smart people actually care about cinematography because that's the whole strength of this medium. If you only cared about writing then you are retarded, not to mention that modern writing is equally sterile.
>>220438192Shitty lighting
>>220438265what should I be watching to raise my IQ 1 pt per quarter?
>>220438410One time can be enough to fertilize the Salmonella fiends.>>220438428Midwit confirmed.
>>220438454>One timeTroubling. Thank you anon.
>>220438339Watch more.
>>220438192Digital and “The Volume”.
>>220438211>>220438240>digital cant look go--ACK
>>220438483That's what I want to do, I've kinds stopped watching anything made in the last 15 years and I've started watching only retro stuff. You guys had it so damn good back in the day.
>>220438192Budget/resources aren't everything. How many people talk + dream about theme park rides they paid hundreds to immerse in all day long? At some point you have to be honest about the quality (purpose) of pursuing an idea, and how much it takes to make that idea believable. Neil Breen isn't an ironic enjoyment bc of low budget, but his underdeveloped, convoluted ideas having easy cop-outs.
>>220438508>what are exceptionsFucking retard.
>>220438265>Stop watching capeshit, especially of the Disney variant, and movies will start looking good again.Even outside of that most movies are so fucking garbage
>>220438508These look like fucking garbage
>>220438563Absolutely FILTERED.
>>220438312>Only the low IQ normalfag audience doesn’t notice that they are consuming slop.Every movie conversation I've had with a normie about a movie has boiled down to "I liked it because [actor/actress]" or "It was so boring". They don't care about technical details at all. If you bring up lighting or sound design, their eyes glaze over.
>>220438588>>220438508>fucking sawLmao
we need to go back
>>220438601Yes, and digital Saw looks better than 99% of movies. Then the first six Saws, which were shot on film, shit all over supposed "classic" cinema.
>>220438192Because midwit normalfags celebrate mediocrity, so Hollywood continues to push out what the lowest common denominator wants.
>>220438613Pure kino. We really need to go back.
>>220438676Can't wait for the Goidysissy btw
>>220438454>actually caring about cinematography makes you a midwitKill yourself.
>>220438613Even in the 1990s forgettable family movies like Mouse Hunt had solid cinematography. Low budget garbage made to keep kids occupied on a trip was still held to quality standards. Now movies for Gen Alpha have Jack Black bop around in front of a greenscreen for 90 minutes
>>220438339holy shit what a worthless fucking post. did you think this was insightful or a testament to your intelligence?
>>220438756Not at all, I was just saying that even without nostalgia googles I can see the superiority of old movies. I am sometimes jealous of you since you got to experience so much fantastic media back in the 90s.
>>220438712>>220438676Grim.
shooting on video is not going to produce a movie
still the best looking movie of the past 10 years
>>220438508>>digital cant look go--ACKnot my fucking point, retard
>>220438508Trash
Why is there a troon that has a meltdown every time someone criticizes modern movies?
>>220438311Nice shot there on the left
>>220439075Most likely zoomers
>>220439143
>>220439075it's hard to admit you were born into a sea of abject garbage that was actually great just a decade earlier.
movies peaked in the 1940s
>>220438192Short answer:Shallow focus, shot/reverse shot, fixing everything in post so no creative decision really stands out
>>220439232>tfw when even the water is acting better than modern water
>>220439232I wouldn't mind touching that.
>>220439283Do you mind giving me some reccs?
>>220438311>>220439232from the DOP of Antman and the Wasp
>>220439374
>>220438638>>220438588>>220438508lol kid that looks worse than clueless… because clueless was shot on film. https://youtu.be/-HkR-2pqPfM
>>220439543Kek, I get it.
>>220438491> “The Volume”.explain
>>220438192lightingthe answer is always lightingsame for vidya, especially remakes
>>220439543
>>220440056Sh normalfags still act like their shitty remake is better
>>220438192I've only ever seen bits and pieces of capeshit, and it all looks terrible.
even old b-movies look better than modern blockbusters with 5000 billion dollar budgets
>>220440232The colors are so fucking good.
>>220438192modern movies are sovless
a big part of it is they use less light on set on purpose because their epic 78k digital cameras can capture an image in such low light. but light *is* image. so they end up making grey digital slop. color grading is also part of it but it starts with how they film things in the first place.
Dune mogs all these old ass boomer movies
>>220441127The old Dune looked better.
>>220441127this image makes me sick. nighttime with giant blue floodlights is so much more kino than gray low contrast digital nighttime. it’s insane how much worse cinema is today than the past. episodes of the x files that had to shoot like 45 minutes of tv in six days look better than $200 million dollar six month long productions today.
>>220441171>>220441236nahh Dune is peak cinematography broo
>>220439856270º giant LED wall
>>220441375>giantonly as long as you don’t tilt the camera up or down even a little kek
>>220439283The opening scene is a favorite of mine. Looks so modern for '46.
>>220441599kinohttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Luyy11fZJIE
>>220441660That panning shot of the cockpit's interior at 2:12 is what's really stuck with me all this time. The wavering camera, the flapping debris, Bob's rictus expression, the fires out the window.
we need to make cgi and shooting on digital illegal
but if everyone thinks it looks shitty and it wasn't expensive before because even cheap shitty movies had decent lighting why can't someone just do it now?
>>220442847Read >>220438312. The mindless audience doesn't care.
>>220442847they can. see>>220438825they just choose not to.
>>220442478Shooting on digital is much quicker than film. New SAG rules state you can’t keep actors on set 16 hours anymore. That means shooting on digital in a green void, and sending the dailies to a rendering farm to add in the background details. There are also Green laws that mandate using LED lights instead of sodium phosphate bulbs.
>>220438192What are some newer movie that DO look good? I thought Under The Silver Lake had a good look to it
>>220442478We need to make being a clueless, talentless chud illegal, actually. Shut the fuck up, you clown.
>new movie bad>old movie good
>>220442959There's too many to count. And it's absolutely not a digital or film matter. Malick and Sorrentino, for example, shoot digitally these days.
>>220442959Strange Darling had beautiful colours. There's also Pacifiction, but that will filter a lot of people with how little happens in the movie.
>>220441264>31 KBNever post again.

>>220439075being born after 2000 is almost like being born in india. you're surrounded by shit. you live off of shit even.
>>220443684Only if you're a shit-eating moron. Literally got the easiest access to media ever, new and old. You can read anything, listen to anything, and watch anything.
>>220442847if you'd run a study on McDonalds customers IQ and capeshit/nigflix enjoyers, you'd get a match
>>220443718you don't get it. if you never cooked your own meal because you got taught to eat mc donalds, you're literally blind to anything else. this is by design of course
>>220443734>muh McDonald's>muh capeshit >muh nigflixYeah, it's a midwit trying to shit on low-IQs again.>>220443767Are you retarded?
