Yeah, Astroid City was worse. The whole play within a play stuff and every character being insufferable. Phoenician at least had a more straightforward story and the smaller focused cast made it more enjoyable.

Asteroid City was like 4 different plots, and good ones, smashed together into one movie. French Dispatch’s segments ranged from certified kino, the prison segment, to pure dogshit, the revolution. So it seemed like he learned his lesson and made a plot focused on one story about Del Toro… except it wasn’t good. Henry Sugar and the Dahl shorts were actually the best thing he’s done in years.
