This is quite possibly the most insufferable le quirky chungus artslop shit Ive ever watched
>>
Asteroid City is worse
>>
>>220445460
you could have known that by just looking at that poster instead of watching the movie
>>
>>220445460
Don't care. Like me Wes Anderson movies. Simple as.
>>
>>220445460
is it a story about child sacrifices?
>>
>>220445656
That's every Wes Anderson movie
>>
>>220445460
>don't like quirky chungus
>watch wes anderson movie
gigabrain move
>>

I loved The Grand Budapest. Even The French Dispatch was alright. The script in this movie was fucking abysmal. The wit and whimsy was gone, it was just hamfisted and clunky as fuck and it felt like none of the actors gave a shit and were phoning it in.
>>
>>220445460
Wes Andersen peaked with Life Aquatic. Everything he’s made since, apart from maybe Moonrise Kingdom, is stuck up its own ass. Dude has been coasting for 20 years. Asteroid City in particular was fucking awful.
>>
>>220445460
I can't possibly guess who the director is, it's a conundrum

Summarize the twist in Asteroid City. I fucking dare you.
>>
>>220445517
i made it twenty minutes into phoenician scheme but less than ten into asteroid city. can't he see that line to line moment to moment scene to scene his movies used to be delightful and now they're excruciating? how is he missing this
>>
>>220445802
The entire performance is you, the audience, being immersed in an immersive stageplay a la Super Mario Bros 3.
>>
>>220445845
That's not the "twist"...that's the premise. I'll give you a single hint: Robbie and Brody.
>>
>>220445460
I give him props for not doing another multi-story shit, but he really needs a someone to else to write the story or have a smaller cast list.
>>
>>220445606
>>220445668
His genre is Whitesploitation and it's running dry.

>>220445745
HARD Agree, though I also love Fantastic Mr. Fox. Life Aquatic is very much the correct formula for his movies, which is larger-than-life characters with very grounded, relatable flaws. Darjeeling Limited tried to hard to reverse that by giving joe averages weird quirks that make them a lot less relatable in the long run.

>>220445845
"You can't wake up if you don't fall asleep" is the most embarrassing attempt at a hard line in a movie I've ever heard, I audibly groaned in the theater next to my girlfriend.

>>220445802
The twist is that it sucks.

>the twist is that it sucks
Nice quip, but you clearly didn't understand what you were watching and your lack of comprehension is making you asshurt and bitter.
>>
>>220446058
Not him but I dont really care to understand it, his hamfisted overly wordy dialogue drives me up a wall and I cant stand listening to it
>>
>>220445926
>story or have a smaller cast list
"This isn't your fucking social club, Wesley"
>>
>>220445460
The French Dispatch was worse. Seeing Chalamet play a suixante huitard who periodically gives his lines in French to sound cool made me feel like I just took a cumshot through my TV.
>>
>>220446058
NTA but I desperately want her to step on my dick
>>
>>220445460
Watch more movies
>>
Yeah, Astroid City was worse. The whole play within a play stuff and every character being insufferable. Phoenician at least had a more straightforward story and the smaller focused cast made it more enjoyable.

If you don't like Wes Anderson you ain't white.
>>
>people standing side-by-side, looking straight into the camera, unsmiling.
>meant to be whimsical and droll
pure clever and witty sophistication
>>
>>220445930
>"You can't wake up if you don't fall asleep" is the most embarrassing attempt at a hard line in a movie I've ever heard
Don't forget
>I still don't understand the play.
>It doesn't matter. Just keep telling the story.
SO DEEP WES
>>
i love this move wholeheartedly, it's literally the only thing i've seen in theaters this decade that i enjoyed. literally, without any exaggeration, the only one
>>
>>220445460
Man, John Astin's looking ROUGH.
>>
Wes Anderson is a master filmmaker
>>
>>220445460
He will never be Jacques Tati. Tropes are supposed to get shortcuts to sth greater, not a dead end.
>>
>>220445460
Myself, I enjoyed it.
>>
I'm the biggest Wes Anderson defender on the planet and even I accept this one was just okay.

He needs to get Wilson back in the writing room.
>>
>>220445517
Android City had soul and at least dove a little in the mid century male psyche. Phoenician scheme was soulless.
>>
>>220445460
It was pretty disappointing, yeah. Had good bits, but the plot was mostly just doing the same thing over and over.
French Dispatch and Asteroid City both suffered from a lack of focus. Asteroid City was like 4 different plots, and good ones, smashed together into one movie. French Dispatch’s segments ranged from certified kino, the prison segment, to pure dogshit, the revolution.
So it seemed like he learned his lesson and made a plot focused on one story about Del Toro… except it wasn’t good.
Henry Sugar and the Dahl shorts were actually the best thing he’s done in years.
>>
>co-written with Roman Coppola
>The Darjeeling Limited, The French Dispatch, Moonrise Kingdom, The French Dispatch, Asteroid City

>written only by Wes
>The Grand Budapest Hotel

>co-written with Baumbach
>The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou

>co-written with Owen Wilson
>The Royal Tenenbaums, Rushmore, Bottle Rocket

Clearly he needs to stop fucking letting that fuck Roman write his shit.
Wes is decent when writing by himself, but shines when Owen Wilson is involved because he brings a lot of heart into it, which is entirely lacking when Roman Coppola is involved.
Wes' entire career is borderline ruined by that talentless leech fuck and his shitty contributions because he couldn't cut it himself.
>>
I just rewatched it for the 4th time on Saturday. It's his second best movie after Tenenbaums.
>>
>>220445460
Jesus, I watched this 5 months ago and completely forgot about it. I had to check to trailer and it felt like something new, but no I logged it in letterboxd.
Asteroid City also sucked hard.
But I thought French Dispatch was one of his best.
>>
>>220445460
>I need to secure funding to cover the gap or else ill have to use my own fortune
>*entire movie happens*
>Darn, I couldnt get funding, guess ill just use my own fortune
>*movie ends*
What a pointless waste of time
>>
>>220449043
Same. Main issue with everything post-Aquatic is that he is saying nothing with his movies. They're essentially just exercises in style.
There's nothing to think about after watching them because nothing is really said. Just storybook vignettes and dull witticisms.
>>
>>220449100
That's a fair take. But hey at least he didn't go the way of Tim Burton.

She just looks like Kate with a squished head. Maybe too little room in the womb?
>>

That's quite possibly the most meaningless, empty sentence I've ever read.
