They got clever with the title design.
Jaws turned the idea of killer animal into something more fun and kid-friendly. Then in the late-70s-80s with Halloween horror moved firmly into humanoid killers menacing in a serial killer fashion. Partly because the rise of serial killers in the news in the Mid-70s and partly because Carpenter made a hit and Hollywood is always Follow the Leader.
