Not taking anything away from Alan Rickman. He was great too. But just as Snape was white Snape in the books he was also James and Lilly Potters age, not in his 50s. Black young Snape vs white old Snape has no clear winner when it comes to keeping with the source material.

Nolan's Odyssey's casting is just kind of funny, I don't plan on watching it but I hope it does well in the box office so I can laugh at the threads here, hell even if it flops the threads will still be funny.
Genuinely mad? No. Just memeing? Also no. It's more annoying than anything. It's not just that they're casting blacks. Nobdoy cared when Denzel was cast as Macbeth. They could do a full blaxploitation Odyssey and it would probably be fun. The problem is that there's a specific Hollywood studio attitude about how Western culture is somehow immoral, and that injecting diversity casting into traditional Western stories can somehow fix it. It's patronizing and insulting. It's the attitude of "swallow your medicine, child," that is so obviously going on that's annoying.
