The story behind the various cycles is tangential enough to the card game that the effort required to make a lore-based movie would exceed the potential viewership boost gained from doing so. Most people who are familiar with Magic are more invested in playing, particular cards, the artwork, the overall "vibe," and/or the act of buying and collecting the cards. A lore-based Magic production probably would've needed to have been an animated movie or series made about 25 years ago.

Pokemon cards seem to have been reduced to an ecosystem of scalpers and investors, 12 year olds watching 40 year olds open packs, streamers throwing around stupid money to buy digitally revealed mystery slabbed cards, and people dickwaving at card shows and shops about their $20,000 PSA10 slabs or $5,000 unopened booster packs. Basically an ecosystem of investing, gambling, and vicarious gambling.
