So she definitely saw something hellish, right? It doesn't make sense for the grandma to kill herself if 1. the girl saw nothing, because she'd have no solid proof of there being nothing, or 2. saw something good, because then grandma would want to share that with everyone else.
Grandma shooting herself after learning that the afterlife is terrible would make sense, because she couldn't live anymore knowing nothing but suffering awaits her once she died and/or she didn't want her organization to learn about it as well.

Yeah.
I think she saw Hell and realized that what she just endured would be her afterlife forever and ever. Enlightenment was learning that there really was nothing but suffering ahead.
The granny killed herself because she knows that there's no point in anything anymore. You are doomed no matter what.

Why would she see Hell? She was the only good character in the movie and actually tried to save people.
I always interpreted it as she did see God/Heaven considering the look on her face when she officially became a martyr, but lied to the old bitch as a final 'fuck you.'
>>
>>220476291
Martyrs is a boring movie for retards that decays into dogshit after the (inspired) first act.
>>
>>220476665
Why wouldn't she see hell?
She was tortured horribly during her life. Why would her afterlife be any different?
>>
>>220476916
If you accept there's a Hell then you accept there's a God and you accept there are reasons for people to be sent there by God.
The director himself said the movie was very Catholic so using Catholicism as the framing for the entire movie what reason would God have for sending the lead girl to Hell? Being abused/tortured by other people her whole life wouldn't condemn anyone to Hell. And despite all that she's still shown to be a good person.
>>
>>220476980
If God didn't care enough to stop the torturers, why would he rescue her or anyone else after death?
>>
>>220477293
Isn't the point that humans/ie:the director/the audience are approving of said violence. The purpose is irrelevant. Why do you think theres pictures of war and torture everywhere? It's basically Funny Games with more gore.
>>
>>220476291
It doesn’t make sense period because it’s a shitty movie
>>
>>220477293
Bruh, now you're just asking questions a 13 year old atheist would ask.
Go ask a priest about that shit; we're talking about a movie.
The director purposely left it open to interpretation if she saw something or nothing.
I interpret it as she did; not because I'm a Christian and wanted her to, but because of the 'martyr' state she enters at the end.
>>
>the afterlife is hell? Imma get me some of that asap!

retards
>>
>>220476291
I assumed that the old lady damned her soul with everything she did and girl told her so.
>>
>>220477425
We are talking about a movie.
A movie where clearly God wasn't guiding the hands of fate towards justice, but against it. A movie where everything that can go wrong did go wrong.
So why would God step in after death? Why would the suffering stop somewhere as though you'd get a reward for it? The entire point of the film is that the suffering is selfish and senseless. A bunch of people that think they can manufacture saints for their own satisfaction and who create Hell on Earth and get away with it.

Hell on Earth, Hell after Earth.
What else would you take away from it?
>>

The granny wasn't going to be under any delusions that she wasn't evil. She was openly a nasty and violent woman without any shame. The classic type of European libertine that didn't care about consequences for her soul.
Her interest wasn't getting a good afterlife, but in knowing what afterlife existed at all.

If she learned that there'd be Hell at the end, why would she wait?
What is the point of living a few more years on Earth if it was an eternity of hellfire for all people, good and bad, at the end?
Skip the boring shit and get to the finish line.
>>
They didn't know how to end it and just decided to do something vague and shocking. That's it.

You get sent to heaven or hell depending on how virtuous you lived in this life. It’s temporary and can be shit by design. If life was perfect heaven wouldn’t be necessary.

My guess is they were some sort of S&M cult so when the martyr told her she was damned she couldn't wait to get tortured for all eternity
>>
>>220476291
She said : I forgive you
And old lady realized what a horrible person she was offed herself
>>
>>220477827
This is attempting to assign value to the suffering when the film is about how there is none.
The friend that was tortured and raped for years as a child didn't grow stronger or more holy for it. They just became mentally unstable and weak and then died pitifully because of their own psychosis.
There is no reward for the suffering at the end. It is just Hell for everyone.

Wouldn't it be more likely she saw afterlife was good and so wanted to go there?
>>
>>220479153
She'd have told the others about it if it was good news.
>>
>>220477428
Total opposite, you prove your subhuman nature by not being able to model knowledge of certain eternal torture. You could never conduct a normal life. You'd spend every waking second vomiting, wracked with existential terror. Best just to bite the bullet and get it over with.
>>
>>220479153
Because this armpit life would be way more tolerable with no looming existential burden at the end. She would probably feel so light at that point that she'd even enjoy living as a murderous old shrew.

Last time I interpreted it as she saw what the end credits show. She playing with Lucy and implied that it's her happiest memories.

Did this movie hit the tiktok algorithm recently? Seems like there's constant threads about it.
