Matches used to be talking a few points about the high spots before figuring out the finish that the promoter wanted and everything they did inbetween, they would make up on the spot by listening to and feeding off the crowd. Modern matches are more akin to ladyboy dance routines or figure skating. Its just "do move, take move and don't sell it. Just wait until next move sequence." Finishers are no longer that; finishers. A move that puts a definitive end to the match in question that only got kicked out of by circumstance like rope breaks, interference or shenanigans. A finish ended the match, period. Now you can have several finishers thrown and the guy kicks out at 2, even 1. What was the point of it then? Why should a move lose its potency? Why bother using it again if its intention of ending the match isn't respected?It hurts the legitimacy of the business, it hurts the effort that was put in buidling it up to where it is, it hurts the image it presents in the public; it is simply fucking rotten. There are so many other factors that can't be listed right now and go over it, but the point is that the accumulations of all these and more sleights and winks at the camera letting the audience know they're in on the joke too blackens wrestlings place in the world of entertainment. The Marvelization of media had its effects on the wrestling industry and not in a good way. The beauty of wrestling is that its like horror movies. Horror never dies; it just goes to sleep. It happened several times before, particularly after WCW and ECW merged with WWF into WWE in that wrestling returns to its roots of being a low budget sports show and from that state of hibernation and gestation, new things emerge. Good and great things. Time just has to unfold and unravel for that to manifest.
