How common is "ghost directing" in Hollywood?
I was listening to an interview with Imogen Gay Poots and when asked about V for Vendetta she states she was directed by The Wachowskis. The Wachowskis are not credited as the movie's directors, although them ghost directing the film has been a rumor for 20 years now.

Some examples:
>Tombstone (directed by Kurt Russell, credited to George P. Cosmatos)
>Cobra (rumored to be directed by Sylvester Stallone, also credited to George P. Cosmatos)
>Return of the Jedi (rumored to be directed by George Lucas, credit to Richard Marquand, possibly co-directed)
>Dredd (directed by Alex Garland, credited to Pete Travis)
>Magic Mike XXL (allegedly directed by Steven Soderbergh, credited to Gregory Jacobs. Various Soderbergh pseudonyms appear in creative roles all throughout the credits)
>a considerable amount of movies starring Clint Eastwood were allegedly directed by him, leading to the DGA to create the "Eastwood Rule"

Bonus:
>Call Me By Your Name (directed by Luca Guadagnino and credited as such, but James Ivory was supposed to be the director with Guadagnino serving as an assistant. Ivory explained Guadagnino how he would direct the film shot for shot. Producers kicked Ivory off the film last minute because Ivory wanted to hire Shia LaBeouf for the role that went to Armie Hammer)

Someone that is usually a director directing a movie that they wrote and produced isn't very interesting.

Kurt Russel doing Tombstone is interesting since even today he doesn't have a single directing credit

>a considerable amount of movies starring Clint Eastwood were allegedly directed by him
Yeah. This was obvious. He's only the main character in the movies he directs.

Zack Snyder ghost directed the first Wonder Woman

I heard several times on this board Amercan History X was directed by Ed Norton

Clint Eastwood portrayed Charlie Parker!?

Other way around. If Clint Eastwood is the main character, he is also the director.

A ghost directs every Nolan movie which is why they feel so lifeless
>>
I ghost directed Drive

American History X's production was a mess and the director was a nutcase. Norton "finished" the movie because the director got too crazy. The director actually ended up directin various other films that he "held hostage" and never got released.

Poltergeist was supposed to be directed by Tobe Hooper of Texas Chainsaw Massacre fame, but he was too zonked out on cocaine, so producer Steven Spielberg violated his ET contract and ghost directed Poltergeist without a credit.

Not surprising. The drop in quality between the first WW film and the sequel is staggering.

Women can't direct action.
>>
>>220480536
Wouldn't many of those ghost directors not just be producers? Producers would have considerable power and creative control over production basically the director's right-hand-man but not doing any actual directing.

What a twist
