It would have been decently believable if they didn't want the retarded over-the-top shot of it slicing all the way through. The initial push against the first Star Destroyer is spread out over a period of time, so its hull would be able to take the stress a lot better than the second Star Destroyer, which is suddenly hit with a kilometer-long ship at speed. The cut wouldn't last nearly as long as is shown before their relative velocities equalize and it stops being able to cut, though.
