Why is it so depressing?
The third season is so devastating. After the last episode, I literally fell into depression for a month.

His boss says, "how am I supposed to make sense of it?" and Dougie mutters back, "...make sense of it" and his boss looks harder and pretends that he understands what Dougie scribbled and that it gave him something to think about.
