It's not that weird when you realize once a 'problem' is solved, the only consideration for the production company becomes "How do we do it cheaper/faster", not how do we accomplish this effect the best. The sweet spot for any visual effect is always the projects that comes right after it's been done the first time, when everyone is competing to see who can master this new possibility in the most exciting way.
But once the way to do it becomes standardized, immediately the quality goes down. Unless you have an autistic director or producer that insist on wanting to invent a new way to achieve the same effect, then you can get kino again.
