He doesn't seem so bad now, huh?
>>
It's a good movie compared to shitty modern movies and in its context it's a shitty movie made because of another shitty movie (Gladiator). The difference is that it was made when movies still barely had some cultural value. Now they don't except as content for faggots on social media (You)

>"You sack of wine"
I remember everyone finding this weird, funny, and outdated, more than the modern updated version of ‘daddy.

i love the scene where peter o'toole makes pitt's acting look downright amateurish

What cultural value does Gladiator and Troy have? "That movie sure looked good." "Yarp, sure did."
>>
>>220498167
agamemnon was being a sack of wine though desu
>>
>>220498118
I thought Pitt gave a good performance, and he was certainly pretty enough, but Troy is still a shit film and I hated it.
The Odyssy being an oncoming train crash does not make Troy good.

>>
>>220498118
Always loved it. Surely it wasn't poem accurate but on its own merits it was well plotted, well paced, gorgeously looking and directed movie with memorable characters and sharp and witty dialogues.
And great action and battle scenes too.
It was a great movie. Just an average Odyssey movie.
Will still mog Nolan's Viking's Journey as both.
>>
>>220498118
The people who post this don't even realize the Illiad and the Odyssey are two different stories.

Delusional

>>220498195
You can argue something for Gladiator but really neither of them have any cultural value on their own that matters. But the movie industry still did matter as a cultural industry when both were released. Today it does not matter, nor should it

Brad Pitt's performance lifts this film to kino status.

This artstyle is gross. At least Stonetoss has that bored Family Guy thing going on where it's not disgusting to look at.

I hope it flops but I do not wish death upon nolan. I can’t wait for this movie to come out so nolan can focus on something more interesting. Tenet openheimer and odyssey all looked boring as fuck from the trailers. Something beneath nolan. I want to see nolan do more interesting stories like inception and interstellar but with white people not fucking niggers no offense

Pitt was at it's peak popularity wise and Troy looked badass.
It's just the usual revisionism
>>
>>220498915
That was a joke. Calling A chilles he/they in the movie or in that period is completely ridiculous.
>>
>>220498749
There was some scuttlebutt from critics over his casting but everyone I know that watched the film enjoyed it and him. We all walked out of the theater on a high from Achilles' fighting style, copying the moves on the parking lot. There was a summer I had that DVD in rotation almost daily. My high school English teacher took everything he could from the movie to incorporate into our unit on the epics.
>>

>The Mediterranean doesn't look like the Mediterranean
>>
>>220498749
Extremely untrue. Pitt was generally considered the best casting in the film and anything memorable from the film (like the duel at the start and the whole "that's why no one will remember your name" and "HECTOR!") comes from him. The film just sucked, no one was hating on Brad.

I literally just fucking finished. It was filmed like a theater play. The fucking troy prologue released in theaters is 10x more exciting than the whole miniseries.

A few seconds of a trailer, lol. Be serious. Watch the full movie and then maybe folks will take you seriously.
>>
>>220499911
the writer is clearly referring to films with historical settings, not treating 2000s cinema as if it were part of distant history
>>
>>220499931
I'm talking about the six minute siege of troy prologue that released in theaters, not what was shown in the trailers DUMMY
>>
>>220498118
wtf are u talking about? Troy was always a good movie and brad was perfect for that role, lol
>>
i havent seen troy. all i remember from the 2000s is harry potter, lord of the rings, xmen, dark knight. troy wasnt a blockbuster
>>
I'm getting kind of tired of Odyssey discourse, sure the movie looks terrible and I'll probably pirate it months after it premieres but I just found out about pic related. This is such a baffling choice. Besides the black actress controversy why would they cast a single person to play two completely different characters? Absolutely bonkers.
>>
>>220500113
Those characters are barely in the Odyssey, that's why. Like we are legitamtely talking 1 many 2 scenes

>>
>>220498118
Its a shit movie from very beginning, filled with alot of weak players like Orlando Bloom and Brad Pitt. Wowow he jukes left and then right and jumps in the air and stabs the guy in the neck! In slow motion and obviously CGI'd. What a crazy, unexpected and totally badass thing.
>>
>>220498195
Roman Empire/Gladiator fights and Mythological Greece/Iliad were already widely known periods/stories of the western culture you absolute retard, what additional "cultural impact" were movies about those periods supposed to achieve?

That 41 year old was wrong. I remember seeing the teaster trailer in theaters in the 2000 and at first I thought the movie was going to be about Jason and the Argonauts until the slow camera reveal showed the thousand ships while the narrator was talking about the thousand ships being launched. I thought it was going to be some cool and awesome Epic film, probably similar to the Lord of the Rings movies.

Then the actual Troy movie came out. People had a blast watching the film and it was being talked about in classes at school. I remember in a Japanese language course back in high school(I'm from Guam) and students were talking about how cool the large scale battles were and that they actually showed blood during the battles. One of the female students, later in the school year it turns out she was an Anime Otaku fan and was really into Inuyasha and the Last Samurai, and she really liked the Achilles character because of the actor. Other students noted the actor who was from the Marvel movie, Hulk, and Black Hawk Down, played Hector. Another realized that the actor who played the Trojan Prince, Paris, was Legolas from Lord of the Rings.

The students saw how cool the damage that the Trojan Prince, Hector, did to the Achaean armies, especially taking down the giant Ajax guy. That Achilles had a formidable opponent when he got his armor scratched during the duel. That the Odysseus guy was smart because of the Trojan horse tactic. Students from pretty much all social levels at school thought the movie was pretty awesome.

Not only were we getting the Matrix movies, the Lord of the Rings trilogy and Last Samurai, but also films based on Greek epics, in the 2000s.
>>
>>220498195
Gladiator and Troy, for better or worse, basically created an entire generation's idea of what Ancient Rome and Greece were like. Those two civilizations being the foundation of Western culture, I'd say that's a decent cultural impact.

Plus both are endlessly quotable, which is fun. And you get to see Diane Kruger's tits and Brad Pitt's ass.
