Keaton plays an actor who was famous in the 80s/90s for playing a superhero (Birdman) but whose career has been dead since, he gets the chance to do a play which if it goes well could reignite his career, he also has to deal with another member of the cast (Edward Norton) who is completely up his own ass, and his relationship with his estranged daughter (Emma Stone), and also his own mental instability which manifests as the Birdman character.
And interesting premise on paper, that is completely undone by the gimmick of trying to make the film seem like it filmed in one single continuous take, which it fails to do because the wipes and transitions are blindingly obvious, and accompanied by a constant (and I mean constant) god awful improvised eclectic jazz drum.
The whole film is the definition of self-satisfied, pretentious "film is art" bullshit. I hate this fucking movie.

It's supposed to play like a play and the transitions are the acts. The play is the movie and the movie is the play. I like this movie. You are a faggot for being too good to enjoy a gimmick creative movie.

I said this in a previous thread too but despite all its pretentiousness and gimmicks I love watching this movie. My favorite part about it is the constant drums in the background, they really soothe my autism.

The gimmick is poorly executed and if it is supposed to play like a play then it fails at what it sets out to do. Worse it distracts from the story itself, the film is more focused on presenting itself as a piece of art instead of actually telling the story.
If they really wanted to do one take, they should have actually put the effort in and really filmed it in one take, or they should have actually filmed it like a play.

I thought Birdman would suck ass by all the hype it got. But nah, that shit's tight.
Op just got filtered.

I hate it because I REALLY hate eclectic Jazz.
Eclectic Jazz is Jazz for people who don't know how to play actual music.

birdman is good
what's your favorite keatonkino? for me, it's The Founder

I still don't know why did this harvey birdman spinoff it sucked.
>>
>>220498234
It's a pretty shitty movie in general but pretending there was some deeper meta meaning to it made it even worse.

I saw it in theaters just on a whim not knowing anything about it, and I thought it was pretty good I dunno about all this shit that OP is talking about.
