Why is it so hard to end a show in a satisfying manner?

Sigh.. Let's not talk about this right now

It is true. There's only one show in history that actually managed to do that well.

The Shield

Mad men sucks, but the final ad with the whole context was satisfying.

Need to leave it open ended so you can make a sequel if need be like what Dexter did. If James Gandolfini never died you bet your ass there would have been a Sopranos sequel
>>
>>220499709
Breaking Bald and BCS did it successfully because Bravo J. Vince is not a pussy who fears making the characters face the consequences of their actions.
>>

Because shows are never made with an ending in mind, only continuing as long as they can before they finally fall off and have to wrap it up via some bullshit.
That's why films are and always will be the superior medium.
>>
Showrunners need to realize that there's nothing wrong with a safe and predictable ending. This is not the time to pull something controversial just to shock people and "subvert expectations". That's what season finales are for.
>>
>>220499709
It's like Supernatural said 10 years before the show ended, "Endings are hard".

Are you the schizophrenic thast comes to lost threads refusing to accept that they weren’t dead the whole time?

The first 2 seasons are great, but it all goes to shit when the stupid hatch blows up and the payoff sucks.

Very few shows are or were made with everything already completely planned out. Most show bibles have, at most, a few basic character and story arcs laid out, with space for writers to pivot and respond to developments, unexpected departures, network and audience feedback, etc.

Many will have a broad series arc or ending planned (Lost, BCS, ATLA), but most will end up going in a lot of different directions than what is originally intended, which can make it difficult to tie everything up in a neat little bow at the end. You can count the number of series that had their stories heavily planned out from beginning to end on one hand - Babylon 5 being the best example, JMS famously had nearly every episode planned and even had multiple branching options to accommodate the possibility of any of the main character actors leaving the show; but this is the exception to television, not the rule.

I cant undestand the ending. Whats that stupid meeting between all suppose to be?
>>

Took the words out of my mouth.

The difference between that and so many other shows is that there were no mystery boxes or even complex plot lines. For all seven seasons the story was driven by one question: will Vic and company pay for their crimes or will they get away with it? The finale gave a satisfying answer.

It’s only hard if the show is nothing but bait. If you have something to say it’s not that hard. If you planned out the show from the start like they claim, it’s not that hard.
What we’ve landed on is half cocked finales based on seasons of promises (lies) by showrunners who then blame the audience for not getting it or being ungrateful.
The Boys are right now in their last season the they’ve written in a show writer avatar so he can whine about how finales are hard to write and audiences are stupid.

I don’t get why these Hollywood retards can feel so entitled to fans and viewership and praise. I don’t know how they manage to turn an obvious “thanks for believing in the show for years” moment into “haha fuck you, you weren’t gonna like it anyway so I made it bad so you’d cry haha fucking audiences suck my balls”.

the most important part of their entire lives was the time they spent together and the relationships they built on the island. they all died at different times but waited to meet each other again to move together into the afterlife

mini-series are the best. Enough time for proper story and character development, but made with an ending in mind.

People shit on the comics for The Boys, and yeah it's a little bit goofy, but the final arc is fantastic because that is where it was leading to the entire time.
No fucking idea what they are doing in the show nowadays, but I watched it enough to know that if they try to do the final arc in a similar way, they already fucked it up forever ago.
