While i understand the concept of The Odyssey being "timeless" the problem here is execution; or maybe is just this generation idea of "beauty" or Nolan´s artistic sensibilities... Personally i´d rather just watch the movie Troy and then watch The return and i´ll give you my reasons. Troy adheres to the notion of being an epic, romanticized tale or fable. In short it is an epic. The return on the other side is visceral and minimalist, it´s like Odysseus, after experiencing the reality and cruel horrors of war has become dragged down by what once were his heroic dreams of youth. He is paying the price for having outlived his own fable. He is carrying all those ghosts around and i think it´s a fantastic vision. That really complements Troy.And then i see what Nolan is doing and i don´t feel anything at all. As i said, i understand his concept and i´m sure there is a twist to it because that´s what he does, he wouldn´t just stop at stating the obvious... i just don´t care enough to find out what that is.
