Absolute kino. Anyone who disagrees hates fun and is a contrarian.

Uncslop, also known as Boomchow.

Decent period piece (even if Algren would have, more realistically, been a European officer and not an American) and excellent costuming. For what it's worth the Japanese apparently liked the movie when it was released because it portrayed the spirit of the era respectfully despite some historical inaccuracies.

Apart from the romance, absolute best movie ever made.

A part of Japanese history that's actually not done to death in other films or other media. I'm actually wondering how this movie even got made. I know the only reason it got approved was inserting a white guy into the events of the story, but what was the impetus to do a movie about the Statsuma rebellion? It's actually very well done as a historical film, despite its liberties.

arugarin the mega weeb trying to fool you into thinking he'd just off himself if the emperor willed it. yeah really? that guy you dont even know?

SHOULD HAVE BEEN SEAGAL
EVERYONE WAS SAYING IT

There's a handful of films from the 2000s that are just fantastic, and were very unfairly criticised at the time. This, Troy, and Vanilla Sky spring to mind. Loved all three, but everyone shat on them

two hours of weaboo masturbation kino

It's not gonna be what you think. Despite Tom Cruise in samurai armor on the poster, he's not the titular last samurai. The actual last samurai the film is about is a Japanese guy that Tom Cruise befriends.

Samurai is meant to be plural.

>we were Samurai and so forth.

This is a leftist theory, and has been debunked.

Putting on armor and carrying a katana doesn't make you a samurai.

A tragedy, and I mean it. Don't know if you've read Shakespeare but, off you go report back.

It's a decent Isekai.

This movie snapped the idea I had since a kid that ninjas were cool warriors
