Everyone has mysteries in their body and soul, learning a great truth feels like the solution to those mysteries. It usually isn't, but learning his mediocre jewish father was cucked by a German aristocrat must have seemed to pull his success up by the roots. It was all genetic determinism, even eugenics. He went through his own personal shoah right there, it's reflected in the movie too. The portrayal of the family is so personal and the sisters are phenotypical opposites.
