Crazy to look at shit like Ace Ventura, and it's damn GOOD looking at times. There was a lot of artistry that was just expected, even on films that weren't considered very artistic or high minded. That's all gone now. There's definitely a "slopification" of tv and film that people have picked up on. If the makers don't care, why should we?
>>
Cinematography is a dead artform and it all has to be flat lighting so that the CGI artists can integrate their assets into the footage easily. It fucking sucks.

I mean I still care because I care about good art for its own sake but it reminds me of how cool as ice was shot by an academy award winner. B movies with great aesthetics should be their own genre

Ahh, I missed "average" in the OP.

In some way it could have been an "average release" in 1985, but by no means is it average on a larger scale. idk nevermind, it's high kino.

Are these film preview contact sheet grid image whatchamacallits made by hand or are they outputs of a program? There's a lot of movies I'd like to do this for if it isn't a hassle

Is there a name for when a movie has a nighttime shot, but they do it in a way that kinda looks like a dark blue filter, or a very strong blue light illuminating the scene?

I watched this movie recently and while it looked visually amazing it was way too goofy and kiddy for my liking.
>>
>>220512889
Polytechnique is still a kino flick though, shot on 35mm too.
