What's the best fictional spaceship?
>>
The Galactica. It's actually grounded in realism and doesn't use stupid laser weapons and energy shields.
>>
>>220507970
>doesn't use stupid laser weapons
But it is capable of FTL travel. Surely that level of technology can produce non-kinetic weapons.

I am biased towards the BC-304 Daedalus class warships. One with Asgard beam weapons, a ZPM and a bay filled with nukes that are beamed onboard enemy vessels is a formidable foe to be reckoned with.

However, I do not know what the bottom 3 vessels are from and what they can do. I know the bottom-right one is from WH40K though. So if anyone can englighten me on the mysterious ships, I would be glad.

The Rocinante from The Expanse, then.
Although I'll have to actually say it's the Galaxy Class Enterprise-D from Star Trek, only because it's like a massive comfy hotel/cruise ship in space. It's easily the most luxurious-looking inside of any starship from popular media that I can think of, so I'd say it's "best" because it's the one I'd actually want to live on (except for those ~26 days of the year when shit goes down)

>There is a thing called hard scifi
This usually has no predictive value. Take "From the Earth to the Moon", where the heroes are shot out of a giant cannon to do a loop around the moon like Apollo 8. That was "hard sci-fi" in Jules Verne's time, but it was so far off the mark that it was basically pointless.
The actual method of going to the moon, a staged rocket, wasn't even contemplated at the time, and the reality of constant radio contact with ground control would have been pure fantasy (radio wasn't known then)

The only worthwhile 40k material to read is the codices, which contain short stories, in-universe reports, and other fluff. The novels are trash
You can tell that the codices are real because they have the phrase
>in the grim darkness of the far future there is only war
whereas the novels have the phrase
>in the grim dark future there is only war
which is obviously wrong

It still disappoints me that there are so many obvious design elements in this that went unused:
>the fighters were supposed to be launched by the rotating midsection
>there are clearly missile silo ports along the side
>the two big guns on the front that look the same as what the narn ship has
all it ever fired were the point defense turrets

>>
>>220518075

>>
>>220518075
Dont agree. The turns they have to make arent the same at all as what you have to do with a medium and with all your thrust being from behind. Why turn fast when you can just hop laterally, or rotate? The amount of time spent in high acceleration is much much shorter, and wont usually reach forces high enough to do significant damage.

Well it's just applying old world colonialism but in sci-fi: go in, defeat the locals and take what you need. Considering what we're doing now with 3D printing and biochemistry there's no reason why they cannot make anything they need from dead rocks in space even plant material like wood which is far rarer than gold or water.
>>220518120
It is retarded when you understand science while not even being educated in it. Those aliens only brought their original defat from Earth and this new problem of a coalition forming against them because they actively chose to attack other races for their resources when they have a galaxy filled with billions of star systems not inhabited they can freely extract resources from.
