because the whole point is that he’s stuck, anon. the show keeps hammering that their friendship is built on history + mutual dirt. you don’t just ghost a guy who knows where all the bodies are buried (literally and financially).

also they’ve been setting up that he needs someone who calls him out on his midlife crisis spiral. it’s less “best buds” and more “mutually assured destruction with drinks.”
