Is it really true or just a myth that this song was inspired by an anecdotal interaction David Knopfler was having in an electronics/appliance store with an employee? Apparently he was just engaging in chit-chat when a Dire Straits music video appeared on the TV screens and the guy started talking about how Mark Knopfler with his faggot earing and makeup earns millions while him and his buddies are hauling and installing heavy appliances living paycheck to paycheck without knowing who he was talking to?
