the old guy in the previous film was a nonce, so they had to replace him. nobody even seemed to realise a major character just vanished. i'm sure it was explained in a cartoon or book somewhere.

>>220523718It's very obvious that Darth Maul should have been the unbeatable imposing villain for the prequels who Anakin eventually kills on his way to Vader. One of the biggest problems with the prequels (which began all the way back in Return of the Jedi) is that Lucas had fully transitioned from a guy wanting to make a cool movie to a tech and merchandising guy, and he wanted to constantly introduce new characters because then he could sell another action figure.
