Look at Theoden healing.In modern movies he'd turn into perfect pristine smooth skinned dude. But here he still has loose hair and is unkempt. But the transformation is still obvious. He still looks wise and old but he regained energy. Nowadays in MCU era it would be done in some garbage clean pritine CGI that would remove all tear and wear and grittyness from the actors.
