This is absurd levels of kino. It's honestly pissing me off, because once I'm done with it (I'm on episode 7), I know nothing I watch will live up to it.

The point is that Yoshii Toranaga-noh-Minowara already won before the battle had even started to the point that the actual Battle of Sekigahara was purely ceremonial. It's deliberately anticlimactic in a way that's incredibly effective unless you are a 0 IQ brainlet who's genuinely upset it didn't end with a big cgi battle setpiece.

Very good adaptation. I have a few minor nitpicks as a fan of the book but none of them really matter all that much.

Season 2 isn't based on a successful novel, like season 1 was, it's being written by modern writers, so don't get your hopes up. Also no Yabushige.

Why? It's supposed to show another level of absurdity of their honor-based autism. Just brought upon by nothing but Aijin's bullheadedness. It's not even a plot point, just a longer version of that scene from the first episode where they decapitated that one guy in the crowd for crossing himself.

>you've embarrassed yourself in battle. your ancestors weep. seppuku before nightfall else every living relative you have will swiftly follow you.

>disturbing the lord's air freshener is a crime and the penalty is death. you're afforded the dignity of seppuku but no finish. here is my blade, make it quick.

>you're being used as a political prisoner. your life and the lives of everyone close to you are threatened by an overwhelming force. the fact that you didn't preemptively seppuku a week ago makes you an idiot, full of dishonor. go out with a bang: seppuku by explosives.

Why don't they just adapt Clavell's Tai-Pan for season 2? It's the same WMAF fetish stuff that the WMAF showrunners like and if Sanada doesn't like leaving Japan for China he can get over it since Gai-Jin is a spiritual sequel to both Shogun and Tai-Pan and they can do that book for season 3.

Some warlords did, yes. Upon defeating their enemies, they would execute male heirs regardless of their age to ensure the enemy's clan is destroyed. It looks awful because it's all shot on green screen in vancouver instead of on location.
The lighting is completely wrong, it's lit like a horror movie in most parts.
The over-use of post processing effects was amateur and awful, especially the fake depth of field on almost every shot.
The lead actor was absolutely atrocious.
The writing (not just the dialogue, which was awful) was fucking terrible.

It was a huge pile of crap and i refuse to believe you're being sincere with this post. I know irony posting is huge on 4chan, so i'll just chalk this up to an ironic shitpost. The word "kino" means nothing.

>Wet and dreary
Probably not? As far as I can tell Mexico City isn't that rainy for most of the year, aside from in summer, where most days it rains for a few hours but is sunny for the rest of the day

>smelled like shit and piss
Almost certainly not.

There was no livestock so there was no waste or grime from those unlike Eurasian cities, and we know contemporary sources it was kept "very clean, so that one could not find any dust or straw in the whole place" (per Bernal Diaz). Later accounts say there was a fleet of civil servants that washed and swept all buildings and streets every day, and contemporary sources say that the city's toilets had their waste collected (presumably by those same officials) to be reused for dyes and fertilizer, so there wouldn't be "shit or piss" sitting around: It's a myth that Medieval European cities were super dirty, but they still (AFAIK) had designated pits for relieving yourself that were only occasionally cleared out (or sealed and then a new pit dug out). Toilets that had their contents emptied every day would have smelled far less. Maybe the chinampa plots smelled from using waste as fertilizer, but agricultural zones everywhere in the world at the time would have smelled for similar reasons

Additionally, we know that gardens were kept in most or all palaces and noble residences, as well as in some public spaces and with state-operated royal botanical gardens, and these would have sweet smelling flowers and trees, with it being stated that wood from such aromatic trees was also frequently used for construction for buildings. People also bathed on a daily basis, there were social expectations around washing ones hands, face, and teeth multiple times a day, and used a variety of shampoos, toothpastes, breath fresheners, body washes, colones and perfumes etc

What kind of crybaby do you need to be to think that a historical civilization being violent means that you can't learn or care about other things they did? The violence is part of the appeal, even

By that logic you shouldn't give a fuck about the Mesopotamians, Romans, Chinese, Medieval Europe or honestly almost any other ancient or medieval society, either

Even the Spanish were capable of praising and wanting to learn about Mesoamerican cities, art, history, society etc, see their (and some Italian, German etc) quotes in pic related, and as seen in the quotes, the Spanish didn't even consider them a particularly violent society outside of their sacrifices: To the contrary they consistently describe them as polite, disciplined, orderly, and capable

>at least they grew out of it
As far as I know (tho I could be wrong, Japan isn't my area of expertise) Infanticide was very normalized in Japan during the same century (and even centuries later, this: content.ucpress.edu/chapters/12058.ch01.pdf claims a third of all Japanese infants in the 18th century were culled, tho that seems really high to me so I wouldn't be surprised if that's inflated), and Japanese soldiers at the time also severed and collected body parts for various ritual purposes and display (academic.oup.com/past/article/270/1/66/7935489)

>wikipedia.org/wiki/Pozole
The Aztec did allegedly eat the meat of sacrificed victims in a maize stew as part of the Tlacaxipehualiztli festival, but as seen here in the text of the Florentine codex: florentinecodex.getty.edu/book/2/folio/18v , the stew was known as Tlacatlaolli.

It's not actually clear that the modern dish of Pozole evolved out of Tlacatlaolli in particular, with "Posolli" being a general term for a variety of maize soups and stews at the time of Spanish contact, apparently (I say "apparently" because the page cited as a source for the 16th century use of the word "Posolli" is down right now)

>Imagine even posting that picture and think you can make a point after that
Again, I'm not even sure what the implication here is. What's wrong with the image?

It's certainly not particularly inaccurate: Aztec rulers had multiple wives, so that's accurate. They are seen wearing Huipil and Quechquemitl (pic) which are female garments (the Quechquemitl is questionable I guess since for the Aztec it was mostly a ritual garment), and they are depicted with Axtlacuilli or Neaxtlaualli/Neaxtlahualli hairbuns/braids, which is traditional for married women. The murals seen on the architecture are based directly on imagery seen in surviving manuscripts (for example, the eagle on the cacti on the headboard of the bed is based on this page of the Codex Borgia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Codex_Borgia#/media/File:Codex_Borgia_page_50.jpg), with the architecture itself also being based on manuscript depictions and ruins (for example, compare the bedroom to this: https://arqueologiamexicana.mx/sites/default/files/mohar_am_38_1.jpg?itok=wjRQ8G1i depiction of Nezahualcoyotl's palace, tho IIRC this is meant to be a stylized/abstract view of the whole palace, not one room). The Cronica Mexicana mentions mattresses, blankets, etc, so that's not out of place either, tho are rarely mentioned compared to simple bamboo matts for sleeping/sitting

I'm neither, my family history comes from Eastern Europe. I'm just an autistic nerd for Mesoamerican history

I know that the whole show is basically about this but I still have trouble wrapping my head around the Japanese attitude towards life and death and honor. It's not anamorphic lenses, it's vintage lenses that makes the background swirl.
Anamorphic squeezes the image to make the image wider in the sensor when you then desqueeze in post. It makes the image wider and creates that signature oval shaped bokeh and horisontal lens flares.
Some of the cheap/bad anamorphics have pretty bad barrel distortion, but the expensive ones most productions use don't have it at a noticeable level.
You have no idea how many movies and tv shows you've watched that were shot on anamorphic lenses. They're very common to use.

The swirly background here is more likely vintage lenses like the popular Helios 44-2 (that was used in The Batman, Dune part 2 and that movie where Emma Stone is like a human doll that gets fucked all the time)

Also, most anons have no clue about using camera aperture and think out of focus areas in movies is a new thing and not one of the fundamental basics of photography/videography that people have made use of since it first was invented.

>i see lots of people saying why they didn't do the author's other asia series?

Nonsense. They should be maintaining a Japanese aesthetic, as the show is set in Japan but there was no reason to fuck up the original (and FAR better) story.

Hollywood is simply incapable of actually _adapting_ a book, they feel they MUST change shit to put their stamp on the production and pretend they are artistes.
>>
>>220542408
they need to shove negroes, dykes, and homos in
>>
>>220542408
It's because if they just adapt something, they won't get any credit for it. They have to put their unique stamp on it so people can call them brilliant and they can build a career out of it. At least, that's the thought process.

The reality is that if things were faithfully adapted they'd probably be more popular and you could make a career as a showrunner being the "faithful adaptation" guy

I think that in Noble House a character called Riko Anjin says that she was a descendant of an English sailor.

In Gai-jin one of his descendants gets killed in a fight.

It's a shame that James Clavell died before he could detail the descendants of John Blackthorne.

By the way Yoko Shimada had an affair with a singer called Yuya Uchida who was married.

The wife of Yuya Uchida was Kirin Kiki who probably was a descendant of William Adams, the real life Anjin.

How about the earthquake induced boner and subsequent sex?

The show was normalfag shit, but I don't know why people think the book was any better. It was an overly long self-insert airport novel for boomers with an equally anti-climactic ending.

In the book he does yes. Kiku is deemed too attractive and seductive to not have a husband, so Toranaga orders that she marry Blackthorn.

Real life Anjin (William Adams) ended up with a wife and children in Japan too. Possibly because of rumours that he was plowing his way through Japanese nobility, though there's zero known veracity to them.

i like this except for the parts where all the japanese people suddenly speak english constantly whenever theyre around jake, which i get why they did it but its still annoying and takes me out. also when they speak english, they speak in this very "filmic" english thats quite theatrical and artificial.
