>Matthew McConaugheyrevealed on the“No Magic Pill” podcast(viaPeople) that he recently exiled himself from Hollywood and lived without electricity for 22 days in Peru when the pressures of early fame became too much for him to handle. He exclusively went by Mateo during this period as to further disassociate himself from his celebrity status.

>“I needed to get my feet on the ground,” McConaughey said. “So, last year, I click out. Boom. Go to Peru. I needed to find it, to check the validation. I knew I had it, I just had to go prove it again. But I did question, now that I just got famous, I’ve got all this affiliation for this and that and the other. And I’m trying to decipher which part’s real, which part’s bullshit.”

>The first 12 days of McConaughey’s pilgrimage were “wonky” but the back half proved enlightening for him, he explained: “I was now at the place long enough to go, ‘I could live this. This could be my existence.’ As soon as you go, ‘I could do this,’ then you’re like, ‘Well, I can return home.’”

>“I needed to meet people who knew me as Mateo,” McConaughey added. “And at the end of 22 days, the tears in their eyes and the tears in my eyes and the hugs we had on the sadness and happiness of saying goodbye were all based off of the man they met named Mateo, who had nothing to do with the celebrity. It reaffirmed my own identity that, ‘Oh, I still got it. This is based on me.’”

I read his book Green Lights. It’s pretty interesting if you’re a movie nerd because he talks about getting his role in Dazed And Confused when he showed up to be a background actor and Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3 and how embarrassed he was when he didn’t learn his lines in another movie and so on. For Dallas Buyers Club he drank wine all day and went jogging in the desert every morning. He’s a jock Chad turned theater kid.
>>
Must be nice to be able to afford just vacationing in a country for 6 months and pretending you live there

I went to Peru because I wished to live deliberately.
I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life, to live so sturdily and Peruvian-like as to put to rout all that was not life.

Didn't he get raped a lot by random dudes in that book? Like, no joke, it repeatedly happens to him in various scenarios

i remember him trying to write a wellness/self-help book that flopped. Then he had some Youtube videos which you had to pay to watch that were quite cultiish. Between that he met with parents of the victims of the Uvalde shooting and that was weird.

he needs to know that he's just an actor..
he's a nice guy. his heart is in the right place.

Are all celebrities that clueless? They talk like theres no world outside showbiz, like they would discover a new contonent each time when they do spiritual detox or some other shit that needs a profund name so the herd of worshippers will eat it like a fresh turd.
I cannot for the life fathom this notion of worshiping and listening to the person just because hes/shes famous.

That's a pretty small portion of a vacation for such a huge celebrity as he is

I had a mental break and did this but without being rich, so I just disappeared into the deep woods of the hammersley wild area for a month and nobody wrote an article about me. You know how hard it is to catch, kill, and clean a rabbit without tools? I didnt until I tried.
>>
Literally Hansel from Zoolander
>>
>>220526536
damn this is so pretentious. I'm not ashamed to say it. My estimation of Matthew McConaughey as a man just fucking plummeted.
>>
He is a total airhead from a super wealthy successful family, absolutely zero issues ever in his life. Handsome, wealthy, successful.
>>
>>220526536
I go to Peru, far from Hollywood's jurisdiction
>>
>>220527384
That's why your experience is a true one and McConauhey's is made for publicity.
During the whole article, he reminds me of a fake tough guy, like Jon Bernthal.

What a load of gibberish. He talks like spiritual Jon Bernthal. Ancient people were right they are really lower than prostitutes. He paid a Peruvian yearly wage for an "authentic" airbnb and acts like he spent 20 years in a cave.
>>
>>220527537
This is a Bernthal board, bitch, and you're going to find out what happens when you try to Freeze Global around here if you aren't careful. The moment the director yells "Action!" I'm going to be in your face, mother fucker.

I think he tried the cuckservative grift a few years ago but there's no market for that anymore. Imagine a Hollywood flavor of Ted Cruz.

How does one reach this level of self-centerdness? In his mind he's all that exists and reality and other people are just objects he sort of fiddles with.
>>
>>220526881
If I were rich and famous I'd try to branch out to other stuff too. Actors are allowed to have delusions of grandiose just like the rest of us. You're "just a neet" but that shouldn't stop you from believing that you're the next coming of Jesus.

>>

You civvies don't know what it's like. I was working twelve hours a day waiting for the crew to set up the scenes, and it was all just too much. I had to get away, so I bought a little $250,000 in a mid-sized 94% white town in Ohio. Every day I would eat out and every night I would drink, just being one with the universe and going with the flow. It was... magical...

Well a lot of them are nepo babies and have never known a world outside of sets and studios, and the handful that aren't strived so hard to be an actor they peeled away all the normal person parts of themselves.

sometimes I imagine a method actor job shadowing me at my boring industrial job and how they would react to a normal 9-5

>Matthew McConaughey appeared on the Fasting and Breathing podcast (via People) to share another chapter of his ongoing spiritual realignment. This time, it involved a 30-day vow of silence at an ashram in northern India, during which he communicated only through a series of intricate hand gestures and referred to himself exclusively as "The Sigh."
>"I had to shed the McConaughey" he said, leaning in. "The name, the drawl, the alright, alright, alright, all of it, just lint on the soul. So I went to this place where they don't even have dust, man. No dust. They rake it. And for a month, I was just The Sigh. I'd point at a lentil, raise one eyebrow, exhale slowly, and the monks would know. "Ah, The Sigh requires more legumes." It was a dialogue beyond language. You can't Instagram that shit, that kind of connection, because there's no filter for the eternal."

>"I could live like this"
Yes, Matthew, we all have that realization, usually when we're children and go camping for the first time. We all learn that you don't need modern contrivances to exist in this universe. We don't all start using another name like we've gone native. Jesus fuck. The word pretentious does not even begin to describe how out of touch these people really are
