I think there's flashes of brilliance in the original Ghost in the Shell manga, dragged down by shallow characters,combined with frequent descents into tangents and diatribe. That last bit doesn't ruin the first manga, but it does ruin the second which completely degrades into schizobabble flailings. If you like SAC, Appleseed's manga does what SAC's glowniggers and spooks are doing better than GITS's manga does. SAC's just a little more pretentious because of the film's influence.
