these films are weirdly bloodless and non-violent. in Star Wars or Indiana Jones, characters get shot and fall down, and those are children's movies.

I think the implication is that the pencil went into his brain and instantly killed him, however the fuck that would work. He should though be bleeding out and screaming and yelling, struggling around, etc. Same with the guy whose throat he cuts, he should be yelling, struggling, etc as he bleeds out.

Nolan definitely made the movies bloodless to get that PG-13 rating.
