People who played the game — is the show accurate / a good adaptation?

I convinced my mum to watch the TLOU show with me, told her it was by the same guy who did Chernobyl (which she enjoyed).And I specifically remember telling her prior to the Bill episode that it would be a good one, thinking it was going to cover Joel & Ellie encountering Bill, all the stuff from the games. Then of course the entire episode was changed to a flashback about homosexual romance.So I'm sat there with my mum, her knowing that I'd played the game and me having told her specifically that this would be a good episode, while we watch a gay sex scene between 2 men.
